NBA 2K21 releases in just about a week. The hype for the game is high, especially after the new Neighbourhood and MyCareer trailer was released. However, fans of single-player modes like MyLeague and MyGM are still waiting for updates. The new game is bound to have it’s drawbacks, with more production focus being put into the next generation consoles.
NBA 2K has made some aesthetic changes to the game. Along with the obvious updates in lighting, the game has added more jump shot animations. Rather than having the usually dull animations, with the occasional super excited reaction, the game will have more exciting new animations.
The biggest additions revealed by 2K are Damian Lillard’s ‘bye-bye’ shot and LeBron James’s powder celebration. That isn’t his shot reaction but is in homage to his pre-game powder toss. There are other additions as well.

NBA 2K21 slow fan announcements
This year’s game has been marked by unreliability. The game launched its pre-order months in advance but is dropping game-related news now. While the upgrades to the neighbourhood are cool, fans would have appreciated the news sooner.
MyTeam looks promising for the next game. The addition of a competitive sphere helps differentiate casual players from the rest. Players also will have more incentive to play for rewards.

The addition of NCAA teams in MyCareer will freshen the game up. The process of being drafted feels more rewarding if you actually represent an actual college team. It helps fans buy into the story that is being told. The Neighbourhood’s beach vibe is appreciated, but hopefully, it isn’t just an aesthetic touch up.

2K is making an effort to improve the user experience. However, the cagey news breaks create confusion amongst the fan base. The new game has almost all the information out, but the process was unnecessary. Buyers don’t have enough time to make an informed choice. There is also little incentive to purchase the game on the current generation. The new consoles will have a more polished game. This feels like 2K studios just matching the need for a new game by reusing most of what was in 2K20.
