The NBA Draft Lottery decides the future of all NBA franchises that need a future superstar to change their fortunes. The pick that you get in the lottery can effectively alter a franchise.
We have already seen that happen with the New Orleans Pelicans and Memphis Grizzlies last year. The number one and two picks were essentially future franchise players in Zion Williamson and Ja Morant.
While this year’s draft doesn’t have anyone that can alter a franchise’s fate instantly, it does have some talented players with high ceilings.

The Minnesota Timberwolves won the lottery and will be able to draft whoever they want. They had the combined best odds with Golden State Warriors (2nd pick) and the Cleveland Cavaliers (fell to 5th).
The Charlotte Hornets jumped into the top three despite having the best odds to get the 8th pick.

NBA Draft Lottery: What else happened?
Minnesota winning the first pick definitely helped their franchise. However, this draft doesn’t have the same superstars that the drafts from the previous two years had.
Even though there are no players projected to have the impact of Zion, Ja, or even Luka Doncic and Trae Young, it doesn’t mean that they can go painfully wrong with this pick.
The last time the Timberwolves had the first pick in the draft, they used it to acquire Karl-Anthony Towns. KAT has been a budding superstar in Minnesota and has an all-star teammate in D’Angelo Russell.
The Warriors got the second pick and it will be interesting to see if they hold on to it. They may look to trade the pick and catapult themselves back into title contention.

However, there are players like James Wiseman that they have a clear shot at drafting now. The Warriors also have a $17m trade exception they can use to potentially trade for an already established player.
From bottom to up, Memphis lost their 14th overall draft pick to the Boston Celtics (part of the 2015 Jeff Green trade). Last year’s lottery winners, the New Orleans Pelicans, will draft 13th.
The New York Knicks fell for the second consecutive year, this time from 6th to 8th. The Pistons, Cavaliers, and Hawks all fell while the Hornets and the Bulls jumped to picks 3 and 4, respectively.
