Giving a five-year max extension to a budding superstar like Jayson Tatum would have been a no-brainer for the Boston Celtics. He was officially drafted in 2017 as the No. 3 overall pick and has proven to be an asset to one of the most popular NBA franchises. However, another player from the 2017 NBA Draft class, Donovan Mitchell, can’t help but make fun of Tatum for his height.
The Celtics were kicked out of the Eastern Conference Finals by Miami Heat. However, their deep postseason run had a lot to do with Tatum and Jaylen Brown’s fantastic chemistry. The 22-year-old averaged 23.4 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists last season.
Tatum has excellent scoring ability. This was his third season with the Celtics, and he has blossomed into an All-Star. The franchise will benefit incredibly from this extension. In fact, Tatum has a player option in the fourth year. As much as the Celtics would like to lock him for 5 years, keeping good faith with their pillar would only make their relationship better. And now, Jayson’s height has become a point of humor for everyone and Utah Jazz‘s Donovan Mitchell.

Jayson Tatum and Donovan Mitchell’s friendly banter
Celtics’ head coach, Brad Stevens, announced that Tatum’s height had increased this offseason. The forward is 6’10 now, while he was just 6’8 last season. Mitchell, being the outspoken person he is, took to Twitter and jokingly accused Tatum of lying about his height.
He wrote, “Bruh why are we lying like this”. He even tagged Tatum to get his attention. Tatum actually joined in on making fun of himself. He wrote in response, “Bro this my 4th year being “19” I’m still growing”.

Mitchell too has signed an extension with Utah Jazz. This goes to show the value the two hold in their franchises at such a young age. They still have many years of their prime left with them. It’s only a matter of time when we get to see which team ends up benefitting from them the most.
