CJ McCollum is one of the best shooting guards in the Western Conference. His backcourt with Damian Lillard has seen regular playoff action, even making it to the Conference Finals two seasons ago. His deft shooting and ability to play off-ball next to Dame have made their duo elite. However, C.J. is yet to make an all-star game or an all-NBA team.
Another shooting guard that is coming to the West this season is the number one overall pick, Anthony Edwards. Edwards will join the Minnesota Timberwolves this season and help the franchise make a playoff push after years. However, the outspoken prospect had made a faux pas prior to the draft and even attacked Damian Lillard’s rapping ability. McCollum responded to that by saying he should focus on his jumper instead.
Y’all gotta chill. . I’m not looking forward to playing nobody lol. I treat every game the same: I actually like his game. But he do need to work on that jumper. He got everything else and you can’t run in the West. Facts only. https://t.co/FWOz0x1vRU

CJ’s comments were apparently blown out of proportion and CJ corrected this on Twitter. However, he did maintain that Edwards needed a better jumper to make it in the West. Ja Morant responded to the tweet as well, attacking the media for twisting the report.

Is CJ McCollum piling on a rookie?
Constructive advice shouldn’t be equated with CJ calling out a player on the court. Edwards is a rookie and will have a lot of people telling him what to do, anyway. As a Western Conference veteran, anything CJ has to say should be looked at positively rather than like this. He wasn’t trying to have a beef with Edwards; he simply spoke about what he felt.
The post in question that CJ has attacked said that CJ was excited to play Edwards, even though CJ had said nothing of the sort. He just made the comment about the jumper. From what can be seen of Edwards’s career, that is true. He has a very inconsistent jumper, putting up poor shooting splits in college.

Portland and Minnesota will be closer to each other in the standings after the changes both teams have made. The Trail Blazers definitely are the ‘better’ team on paper, but the young Minnesota squad will be looking to make some noise. After all of this, that is the narrative that has been created.
