Kevin Durant made his highly anticipated return to an NBA court after 545 days out with injury. Durant suited up in his first-ever game for the Brooklyn Nets against the Washington Wizards in the NBA pre-season. KD had a 15 point outing on 43% shooting efficiency. While he did look rusty, one cannot say he looks past his old self.

Considering that his return to an NBA court was relatively successful, KD has been swamped with attention. While the fans and media have already blown social media up about it, it seems KD’s own circle has shared the excitement. The attention seems to be getting too much for KD, who is known to always just focus on playing basketball. This is what he said about his return and the attention it’s getting.

“I feel great. To get back on a team, get back on the floor, and play again. It felt great. Everybody’s texting, calling, asking how I’m feeling and I can’t wait till that’s over with so I can get back into the swing of things and feel like one of the guys again. It was a good first step.”

Considering Kevin Durant is entering his 15th season in the league, there isn’t a lot of time left for him. Durant is in a win-now situation, so easing into the game may not be the best option. From what we saw today, there hasn’t been a dramatic drop-off in KD’s athletic or physical ability.

Durant never relied on being an athletic freak to get his buckets. He is naturally tall, but not as physically built as some of the other forwards. Despite that, KD is one of the best scorers that the NBA has seen.

Talent like that, along with a floor wizard like Kyrie Irving is a hard combination to brush off. If the chemistry of the volatile team stays intact, Durant’s return to the NBA will be just fine.
