Patrick Beverley provoked the wrong man. After the Portland Trail Blazers lost to the LA Clippers, Damian Lillard went berserk in his next three games. Last night against the Brooklyn Nets, he scored 42 points while getting 12 assists. The Nets fought back and were in the game till the end, but Caris LeVert missed the buzzer-beater and couldn’t get the win for them.

In the post-game interview, Lillard talked about the last play and how he knew they had a good chance to win. He also spoke highly about LeVert and praised him for his performance.

“Once I saw CJ sit down and keep (LeVert) out of the paint and make him settle for a tougher shot, at that point I was like we got a good chance. Because he hasn’t had to take a lot of those shots off the bounce, moving that fast all night. It was just let’s go get the rebound, Melo crashed in and came up with it and we finished the game with a stop.”

Damian Lillard believes they deserved the win

Despite Brooklyn missing so many players, they were on a good run, going 5-2 in their seven games. So Lillard says he was ready for them. He also talked about being proud of the work the team put in so far.

“I’ve seen three of their games and I knew it was going to be this type of game,” Lillard said. “We weren’t going to come in and just get them out of there. They play with a lot of effort, they play together, they believe. So we came out here and earned another win. It feels better going into the play-in game knowing that our eight games, we had to work for it. We deserve to be where we’re going.”

The win helped the Blazers to retain their position as the eighth seed. They will now face the ninth seed Grizzlies in the play-in tournament on Saturday. Unlike the Blazers, the Grizzlies have been very poor in the Bubble. They won last night against the Bucks, but could only win two games out of eight.

The Blazers are the favorites to come out with a win, and it might be Dame-time again.
