Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson is one of the best shooters the game has ever seen. And on October 29, 2018, he reminded the league about that.

During the Warriors vs Bulls regular-season game, Thompson set the record for most three-pointers made in a game. It was the eighth game of the season. Thompson was coming off a horrible shooting stretch in those previous seven games. He was averaging a disastrous 13% from three and had scored just 5/36 threes coming into the game against the Bulls. So he knew he had to improve.

Warriors’ Klay Thompson lights up the Bulls

His first three came after a screen from Draymond Green. The second came off a lightning-quick catch and shoot, which made it the first game of the season where he scored more than one three-pointer. When he scored his third 3pt of the night, his teammates were overjoyed and were celebrating with him. They could sense a storm brewing up.

After that, it was just some excellent off-ball movement from him, and Green picking him out on the perimeter. Early in the third quarter, he had a forehead cut following a collision with his teammate Damian Jones. He played on with it for a couple of minutes before coming out with a headband.

With just one behind the previous record of 13 set by his teammate Stephen Curry, it was the two-time MVP who got the assist for his record-tying attempt. Then, with less than five minutes left in the third, Thompson hit the 14th to shatter Curry’s record and etch his name into NBA history.

He did this within three quarters, playing just 26 minutes, and scored 52 points, proving that when he is hot, only Steve Kerr can stop him.

Stephen Curry: The ultimate teammate

The most heart-warming part about this was the joy Curry had, even though it was his record being broken. His unselfish nature was at its peak during this game as he kept passing to his Splash Brother who was shooting lights out. Later, after the game, he posted a video of the box score and Thompson behind, showing his love for his teammate.

Following the 2020 NBA playoffs, many fans have labeled Miami Heat’s Duncan Robinson as the best catch and shoot player in the league. But that is just classic recency bias. This performance just reminds them that Klay is miles ahead of the rest.
