The 2020 NBA Draft is less than a week away. Top prospects are completing workouts for teams, and LaMelo Ball is one among them. ESPN reported that the star point guard just had workouts with three teams, the Golden State Warriors, Charlotte Hornets, and the Detroit Pistons.

This was Ball’s second workout after he had one with the Timberwolves earlier in the week. He also had interviews with Timberwolves, Warriors, Hornets, and Bulls. All top four teams in the Draft have expressed their interest in Ball. So the workout with the Pistons is interesting, as it could mean they are confident about trading up to get him.

Pistons GM Troy Weaver had also spoken publically about their interest in him. Over the last decade, their drafting has been questionable. When they drafted talented players like Spencer Dinwiddie and Andre Drummond, they could not hold on to them for too long and they left, eventually. So drafting Ball could be the sign of a new era for the Pistons.

Will LaMelo Ball go #1 or will he fall?

Multiple mock-drafts have put Ball at #1, but going to the Timberwolves doesn’t make much sense. They already have D’Angelo Russell as a ball heavy point guard. Although he averaged 1.5 steals per game in NBL, LaMelo isn’t the best defender. The Timberwolves are already infamous for their poor defense. So adding Ball to the mix could potentially go wrong for them.

Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman are the other two prospects who are considered among the best three with Ball. Wiseman, who is a center, has reportedly said that he does not want to be drafted by the Wolves. It is not a surprise considering the Wolves star player is Karl-Anthony Towns, who is also a center. So they could end up drafting Edwards.

So the Warriors and Hornets will be ready to pounce on Ball. Hornets are reportedly interested in trading for Russell Westbrook so they don’t need Ball if they have the Brodie. It will be interesting to see what the Bulls and Pistons do on Draft Night, considering how they have been so vocal about their interest in the 19-year-old.
