Houston Rockets star James Harden has been trying to leave for the last few weeks. There were rumors linking him with a move to the Brooklyn Nets to team up with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, but it never materialized.

There were additional rumors about Durant personally recruiting his former teammate. But the 2014 MVP has denied all these claims of tampering.

I don’t know where you’re making these stories up, that me and James talked about any of this at a workout. I don’t know where that came from,” Durant said. “James is a friend of mine, but I let the front office handle all of that stuff. I was just so focused on working out.”

He added that he heard about the stories, but he never bothered about it, and neither did his teammates.

“I heard all the noise that James potentially wanted to come to the Nets,” he said. “But anyone can make up stories, anyone can write a story, and it gets some traction. Nothing’s ever set in stone until it’s set in stone, so I’ve never thought too much about it, just focused on myself. And my teammates probably did the same thing, and we just move forward.”

Does this put an end to the James Harden – Kevin Durant linkup?

The two former MVPs teaming up would have made Brooklyn one of the most lethal offenses of all-time. Two of the greatest scorers of this generation teaming up would mean they can outscore anyone in the league. Add Irving to that mix, and you have an indomitable offensive juggernaut.

The Nets would have had to give up a lot for that trade, but it would have guaranteed titles. There are concerns about how Harden and Irving would share the ball, but it would only be a matter of time when that is resolved.

But according to Nets Daily, “talks never progressed” between the two teams, which have put these trade rumors to bed. So a team-up between Durant and Harden might not happen anytime soon.

He rejected a $50 million contract extension from the Rockets to show he wants out. But it looks like the Beard will have to stay in Houston reluctantly since he still has two more guaranteed years left on his contract.
