The longest season in NBA history concluded a few weeks ago. The players just got back home when they received news that the upcoming off-season is going to be the shortest so far. Because of this reduced break, Lakers guard Danny Green said that LeBron James and other star players might miss the initial month of the new season.

Billy Reinhardt from the Nets Daily then pointed out how the Lakers and Heat will just get two months of break, instead of the usual four. This prompted Lakers veteran Jared Dudley to reply to Reinhardt.
The show will go on, just don’t cry a river when stars sit out TV games… esp Top teams that played a longer full season … https://t.co/sCw5NmhBLp

So that almost confirms that fans might not see their best players in the initial weeks. Lakers fans might miss LeBron and Anthony Davis, while Heat fans will miss seeing Jimmy Butler in action.

Will the first month turn into a Summer-League experience?
Due to the lockdown, the Summer League was canceled. So the draft prospects will not get much time to settle into their teams and will directly get into action. But with the star players expected to sit out for the starting weeks, it could end up being like an alternative Summer-League with just the youngsters and the rotational players featuring.
It could be helpful for the young players, as they will be able to settle in better. They will not be under the same pressure they would have been otherwise. Coaches will also be able to get their best role players figured out. Accordingly, they can build rotations for when their stars return.
Will this affect the Lakers negatively?
The Lakers have been heavily reliant on their stars, LeBron and Davis. So if they play for almost a month without them on the team, they are bound to struggle. Last season, the Lakers had just one game where both of them didn’t play. Although they ended up beating the Thunder in that game, a repeat of that for 3-4 weeks is highly unlikely.
So coach Frank Vogel will be hoping his stars return soon, or they might have a bad start to the 2020-21 season.
