Why did Danny Green defend the Lakers’ head coach?

Danny Green claimed that Vogel is getting an unfair amount of hate. Danny Green has played with Vogel before; he was on the Lakers Championship team of 2019-20 season. In his opinion, blaming the coach and firing him for all the troubles of the team seems rather foolish. He believes that the real problem is arising out of poor roster construction.

Coach Vogel man, I liked Coach, he was great,” Green said of Vogel on his Inside the Green Room show. In defense of the coach, Green questioned the basics of Russell Westbrook and co., he added, “It’s hard to put them in their strengths. You can’t make guys make shots. You can’t make guys not turn the ball over. You can’t make guys play defense. Those are three major things that you need to win a basketball game.”

Green wholeheartedly believes Vogel is a good coach. He feels shifting the blame from the coach to the players would be better. This would help the players buck up and start competing again. The performances of the players have been sub-par and unsatisfactory this season.

What’s happening in LA this season?

The Lakers are struggling as a team this season. Their current record is 22-22, which puts them on the number 7 seed in the Western Conference. They will have to fight in the play-in tournament to compete in the playoffs. At the time of writing, they’re on the verge of losing to the Indiana Pacers, which would send their percentage for the season below 0.500 again.

The Lakers have been mocked since the starting of the season for trading aging players. Additionally, they spent too much money on Westbrook. Adding him to the team has not helped.

The Lakers have played most of their games this season without either James or Davis. Their roster has been highly unpredictable due to COVID-19 and injuries.

It’s hard to believe that Vogel is the entire problem and the players need to take some responsibility. However, Vogel needs to come up with a team strategy which will make the Lakers competitive. Furthermore, it is impossible to fire the entire team. Therefore, when things are going bad, it is just easier to fire the coach.
