Rajon Rondo just won the second championship of his career, and he played a key role in achieving the silverware. However, there is a chance the veteran point guard won’t return to the L.A. Lakers next season.
Chris Sheridan broke the news that Rondo is planning to opt-out of his player option. However, there is no concrete evidence for the news at this moment.
“He’s definitely opting out,” a league source said, according to Sheridan’s report.

If Rondo does decide to enter free agency, there are many teams that can use the talents that the two-time champion brings to the table. Moreover, re-signing with the Lakers is still a viable option for Rondo, as he could look for a better contract moving forward.
Even after winning the championship with the purple and gold, Rondo dropped a hint that he could leave L.A. in the offseason on ESPN’s first take.
“I’m definitely going to entertain it. Obviously, always thinking about running it back with a great group of guys and coaching staff. I can’t thank those guys enough for giving me a shot the last couple of years. It’s been amazing playing for this organization.
“My agent and I will sit down and talk, but right now, I’m just kind of enjoying the moment, continuing to ride this high out. I don’t want to think about free agency right now; I’ve got a couple of months to do that as well. Right now, I’m going to enjoy the time with my family, friends, take a lot of great vacations and keep enjoying life.”
Rondo has been an incredible asset for the Lakers over the last couple of years. If he parts ways with the team, it will definitely hurt them.

Even at 34 years old, Rondo played the role of an incredible floor general for LA. When he’s on the floor, it allows LeBron James to be more aggressive on the offensive side of the floor.

Moreover, Rajon’s basketball IQ and ability to create shots for his teammates are unparalleled. Rondo was instrumental for this Lakers team- throwing lobs to the big man, throwing pinpoint accurate passes, and being a leader when the two superstars were on the bench.
They do not want to lose a player of his caliber when in a position to potentially repeat or three-peat. But what do you think? Can the Lakers convince Rondo to stay at bay or not?
