Many players backed out of the NBA’s Orlando bubble due to family concerns. Boston Celtics young star Jaylen Brown recently revealed that he was also on the brink of leaving. While appearing on The Ellen Show, Brown revealed that he going to stay back to help his grandfather following his cancer diagnosis.

“My grandpa was diagnosed with cancer right before they were talking about going into the bubble,” Brown said. “He’s been living with me for the past four, five, six months. He needed me around. But when we had the conversation, he didn’t necessarily want to start his chemo.”

But the 23-year-old managed to convince his grandfather to take the treatment. “He just said he was done, he said he was tired,” Brown said. “How I convinced him was I said I was going to go down there and play, but you’ve got to play too. So he liked the sound of that and he signed up.”

Celtics’ Brown says his grandfather is the toughest guy he’s met

“He’s like the toughest guy I’ve ever met,” Brown said. “He’s like a superhero. He has been to the Vietnam war, he’s been shot in the head twice, he’s had a heart attack, cancer, COVID, all at the same time and he has beaten it all.”

Back in May, his grandfather was helping him to train as well.

All this training helped him to stay in shape for the bubble. Brown averaged 21.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in the playoffs and was the Celtics’ second top scorer. He was impressive on both ends for the Cs and almost helped them to reach their first NBA Finals since 2009.
