When Carmelo Anthony returned to the Orlando Bubble after the NBA resumed, he looked more toned than he has in years. And for the second time this week, he led the Portland Trail Blazers to a nail-biting victory.
The match on August 1 against the Memphis Grizzlies would not have proceeded to over-time if Carmelo hadn’t scored those two important shots in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter.
They managed to pull off a comeback win with 140-135. The same last-minute basket with 54.6 seconds left came against the Houston Rockets. The late three-pointer helped the Blazers clinch the win with a score of 110-102.

The irony is that Carmelo was part of the Houston Rockets from 2018 to 19. In that one-year deal, he only played 10 games for them and parted ways soon after. The Houston Rockets definitely did not see so much of him while he was playing for them.
Carmelo Anthony is winning hearts
On First Thing’s First with Nick Wright, Jenna Wolfe, and Kevin Wildes, they discussed Blazers’ star, Carmelo Anthony, and his performance so far. Nick Wright said, “I’m surprised he got this opportunity when it looked like the league had given up on him. I am not surprised he is making the most of it.” He even talks about how he was rooting for the Rockets and says, “I bet on the Rockets last night. I had every reason, when Carmelo hit that dagger three, to be devastated. And you know what I found myself doing while I was watching it? A Tiger Woods fist bump.”
He justifies his feelings and says, “You know why? Because Carmelo Anthony deserves his flowers from everyone in the media at large that acted like because he had a bad playoff series with the Thunder and he was a terrible fit in Houston that he no longer could be a viable NBA player.”
Blazers would be nowhere without him

He continues to hail praises at Carmelo. “The Blazers would be 0-3 and dead in the water without Syracuse great Carmelo Anthony. … This is a 10x All-Star, a 6x All-NBA, scoring champion, most decorated men’s basketball Olympian ever… I’m happy for him, he deserves it.”
Wright wanted to put across the fact that not fitting in the Houston Rockets did not mean that he was dead in the water and should not have been a media target because of it. He has certainly proven himself in the current games and deserves to be applauded for it.
