When Brooklyn Nets signed Kevin Durant last summer, they knew that he wouldn’t be available for them in his first season with the club. However, with the league suspended midway and a probable delayed end to the season, there rose a new hope that Durant might be fit enough to play.
Nets General Manager Sean Marks, talking about Durant’s status, didn’t rule out a return this season.
“That’s a $110 million question,” Marks told Newshub of New Zealand. “In all seriousness, we’ve tried not to talk about his timeline a lot.”

“He knows his body better than anybody. Our performance team and training staff have done a tremendous job getting him to this point, but I just don’t know how coming out of this pandemic will affect anybody, let alone Kevin.”
Durant was one of the biggest signings last summer, if not the biggest. In his three previous seasons, he had guided the Golden State Warriors to two consecutive titles and got injured in the third Finals.

The Nets will not want to risk him by playing him for the sake of playing and will need to be patient with him. Because when he does come back, he is one of those players on whom the team can depend.

“When you’ve got enough invested in a player like Kevin, we’re never going to push him to come back. When the timing is right, he’ll be 100 percent when he gets on the court,” Marks said.
“I can tell you this though – before the pandemic, he looked like Kevin Durant and that’s a good thing.”

If the league does resume and the Nets do decide to field Durant, he will have to get into the mix very quickly. There is very little possibility that there will be regular-season action again this season.
There is a good chance that Durant will be playing high-intensity games, probably post-season, if he plays again this season. This won’t be easy considering the kind of injury he has suffered. The Nets will also have to consider this before they put Durant in.
