Many teams have already started planning on how they could sign Giannis Antetokounmpo when he hits free agency. It would undoubtedly be a dream move for any team in the NBA. Golden State Warriors have been among the teams that a few reports linked Antetokounmpo to.
In a recent conversation with NBC Sports Bay Area, Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer said Giannis would clearly be a top target for the Warriors. The Warriors have recently signed Andrew Wiggins from Minnesota Timberwolves. O’Connor believed his trade could possibly help in signing Giannis along with some high draft picks.
“That’s the No. 1 target of course,” O’Connor said. “People say, ‘How would you get Giannis?’ Well, you have multiple salaries- (Andrew) Wiggins or Draymond (Green) – that you could move. You could move your first (round draft pick) this year and that very appealing Minnesota (first-round) pick next year.

“But that’s — of course — a pipe dream. But a dream nonetheless and it’s worth pursuing.”
Giannis Antetokounmpo will be like Kevin Durant in 2016 for Golden State Warriors
As O’Connor pointed out, it would be a dream move. But the Warriors have previously got such moves. When Kevin Durant hit free agency in 2016, the situation was similar. Teams were looking to swoop in one of the best players in the league. And it was the Warriors who managed to do it in the end. They added Durant to an already strong unit and won two consecutive titles. Durant was the Finals MVP on both occasions.

Like Durant in 2016, Antetokounmpo is also a player that would strengthen any team. Antetokounmpo has led the Milwaukee Bucks to among the top teams in the league. He won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award last season and is one of the favorites to win the award this season.

Having lost in the Eastern Conference last season, Antetokounmpo will want to win the league with the Bucks, Prior to the league’s suspension, the Bucks were on top of the Eastern Conference with the best record in the league.
Apart from Giannis, The Warriors, of course, have other options to strengthen their squad with a guaranteed high draft pick for the next two drafts.
