New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson scored a career-high 35-points against Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.

During his performance, Williamson slammed an alley-oop over Los Angeles Lakers’ Kyle Kuzma. Kuzma was marking Williamson near the post when the rookie made a turn towards the rim. Pelicans’ guard Lonzo Ball released a perfect ball for Williamson to slam the ball over a helpless Kuzma.

 Zion Williamson continues to excel in his rookie season and could lead New Orleans Pelicans to the playoffs

When New Orleans Pelicans drafted Zion Williamson with the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, a lot was expected from the teenager. However, his appearances initially were limited only to preseason games. An injury in the preseason saw him miss the start of the season. The Pelicans paid great attention to his rehabilitation process.

When Zion eventually recovered from his injury, his NBA start met the high expectations. 14 games into his NBA career, Williamson is averaging 23.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists per game. He shot 59.3 percent from two-point field goals and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Sunday’s game against the Lakers was his 15th game where he registered his career-best points tally. It was also his third consecutive 30-point game. His performances have given new hope for the Pelicans to make it to the playoffs this season.

The Pelicans are currently one seed below the last playoff spot. The team above them, Memphis Grizzlies, have 29 wins in 60 games while the Pelicans look to improve their 26-34 record.
