Miami Heat star player Jimmy Butler returned to the courts after missing two games. He was back in the starting lineup Wednesday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves after missing Miami’s past two games for personal reasons.

Jimmy Butler: Cornered

Three Minnesota Timberwolves players, led by All-Star point guard D’Angelo Russell, blocked Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler at the rim with 1.2 seconds left to secure a thrilling comeback victory in South Beach.

This is an amazing win by the Timberwolves without superstar big man Karl-Anthony Towns. It marks just the second time Minnesota won a game in their last 20 contests.

Russell led the Timberwolves with 27 points in 21 minutes. Another newcomer Malik Beasley poured in 21 points and Juancho Hernangomez scored 17.

D’Angelo Russel was optimistic about his play,

“Coach [Ryan Saunders] showed a lot of trust in me,” Russell said. “I’ve been in situations throughout my career where teams have made that substitution and went all defensive lineup, no hiccup, no weaknesses. For him to trust me and to believe I would be there to execute, that’s just our chemistry growing.”

Jimmy Butler delivers regardless

Both teams traded free throws again, but McLaughlin made a layup with eight seconds left to put Minnesota up by one. Without any timeouts, Jimmy Butler took the ball up-court and went straight to the basket — a good play, unlike his ill-advised 3-point attempt in Miami’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks last week. But Butler’s shot didn’t fall.

Butler returned from his two-game absence. He scored 18 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field and 10-for-11 shooting from the foul line. Butler also dished out nine assists but committed four turnovers.

Minnesota isn’t going to make the playoffs this season. However, this game just shows the group of players in The Twin Cities haven’t given up on head coach Ryan Saunders.
