Los Angeles Lakers are always looking to add potential value to there bench. Can Dion Waiters also be the one to enjoy the LA life?

Playing just three games this season with Miami Heat, Dion Waiters averaged 9.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1 assist a game.

Heading into the 2019-2020 NBA Season, Waiters didn’t see a good start. Waiters received a 10 game suspension from Heat’s officials for eating edible gummy cannabis which led to a panic attack during a team flight.

The Miami Heat traded Waiters as part of the package to receive Andre Iguodala. The Grizzlies subsequently waived him shortly after.

The Los Angeles Lakers looking for backcourt depth?

The Lakers have been interested in Waiters for a bit of time. After being waived by the Grizzlies, they are considering giving the guard a workout before committing to signing him.

“I don’t know if Dion Waiters is an answer, They’re going to give Dion a look. They had a meeting with him last week.” as per Brain Windhorst on the Hoop Collective Podcast.

The Los Angeles Lakers are second as per our Power Ranking and would want to add quality, heading into the playoffs. Waiters, who will be given a trial with the team, faces competition for a roster spot from J.R. Smith.

Smith is trying to make his way back into the NBA. It’s likely only one of them will be signed onto the roster. Waiters’ trial with the Lakers, will ultimately prove pivotal for his chances to join the Purple and Gold.

Waiters will meet the Los Angeles Lakers leadership in Early March. This could lead to potentially involving him towards the roster. What Waiters bring is core intensity and veteran experience which would come handy moving into the playoffs later this year for Lakers.

Being a perimeter player, he brings a core strength for clutch moments to the table.

Recent off-court issues might be a strong discussion point during the talk. This could lead to a strong emphasis on values the Lakers believe in.

The Lakers have a good roster. However, Frank Vogel would certainly require a player who can back up the momentum and relive some pressure of Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
