Just hours after Team USA’s impressive win over Serbia, Kevin Durant, had the social media stirring. The Phoenix Suns star, never one to shy away from speaking his mind, took aim at Denver Nuggets fans for seemingly rooting against their nation for Nikola Jokic. The matter only built up to have Eddie A. Johnson, a Suns icon himself, standing in support of Durant.

The saga began when a Nuggets podcaster took to X, claiming that “the whole country should be proud” of going toe-to-toe with Team USA. Durant responded sharply, asking, “Where are you from??” The comment section exploded, with Nuggets fans defending their right to root for Jokic. One even declared him “clearly the best player in the world.”

Durant then unleashed his frustration, saying, “To all you Nuggets fans, nobody gives a f**k who y’all lames believe is the best player in the league.” He clarified that the players deeply respect Jokic’s talent, and added “Trolling you cornballs for rooting against us is part of the game. Deal wit it.”

In the midst of this heated exchange, Eddie A. Johnson weighed in on X with an observation of his own. “So it’s ok to go against America when you have a reason.” Then he went on to note that Jokic would be more focused on his country than the Nuggets franchise – something fans are on the opposite end of.

“What they don’t know is Jokic loves his country way more than Nuggets fans cheering for him. That’s a line he will not cross, but some in our country cross it easily! 🤷🏾”

When fans spoke against the remark in the comments again, Johnson was quick to shut them down. Kevin Durant on the other hand had been on a similar run. Supposedly at 5 am in Paris, the power forward was out bringing about checks on the obsessive sports culture.

Kevin Durant criticizes fan culture

Following his first comment on patriotism, someone caught KD’s attention to have him say, “Lets talk about the fan culture.” He went on to address the how fans have come to believe they are responsible for a sports’ success and the idol worship that has been prevailing; eventually birthing hate and disrespect.

But that wouldn’t be all. He also called out fans for suggesting ‘worship’ has always existed but it is only more noticeable due to the oversees players being in the focus of late. “This a brotherhood fam, u not apart of… YOU DONT!!! YOUR TAKES DONT MATTER,” he concluded.

KD, post semi-finals admitted to Team USA that he loves playing for Team USA, loves the brotherhood, the purity away from ‘NBA BS’, and the greatness that comes with it. The Games have been a joyful time for him, something he says will be etched forever in the memory. An itch in the process certainly wasn’t one for the 3x Olympic medalist.
