Gilbert Arenas might be the proudest basketball dad right now. His son, Alijah Arenas, has been on a relentless rise since reclassifying from the 2026 class to 2025. From earning a spot in the McDonald’s All-American Game to committing to USC, the five-star prospect has been making waves. But his latest milestone? It’s one for the history books. And, of course, his dad is right there, celebrating every moment.
BallIsLife.com editor, Ronnie Flores broke a news on X on Sunday. “Another record broken: Alijah Arenas (@ChatsworthBBall) is now the LA City Section (@CIFLACS) all-time leading scorer,” he wrote.
Flores also highlighted Alijah’s journey—passing his dad’s 2,124 career points, then shattering the all-time record of 2,540 on January 24. By the time he committed to USC on January 30, Alijah had already stacked up 2,614 points—and counting.

And Gilbert Arenas wasn’t going to let this moment pass without a shoutout. The former NBA star reshared the post on his Instagram story, adding a special message. “All Time Leading Scorer in the City Section. Oh Yeah. 3 years too @alijah0arenas,” he wrote.
It’s no surprise Gil’s son’s name is everywhere. At Chatsworth High School, Aliaj has been putting up video game numbers—averaging 31.8 points per game. But he’s not just a scorer. The 6-foot-6 guard also contributes 7.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.

Chatsworth’s Alijah Arenas (0) looks to make a pass during the game against Western Christian in the Capitol City Classic on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024 in Salem, Ore.
Starting 2025 as a senior, Alijah wasted no time in making a statement. His first game of the year had everyone—including his parents in the stands—on their feet.
Interestingly, this is not the only one of Gil’s records that Alijah has broken in this year alone.

Alijah Arenas is already ahead of his dad
Just weeks ago, 247Sports dropped a massive update—Alijah Arenas, son of three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, was reclassifying from the 2026 class to 2025. The news naturally sparked conversations about his future. But the hype only grew from there.
“Alijah Arenas, son of NBA legend Gilbert Arenas, recently reclassified to the 2025 class and now ranks as the No. 10 player in the nation 🔥,” 247Sports announced on social media.

At just 17 (turning 18 in March), Alijah is already ahead of where his father was at his age. Unlike Gil, who finished 99th nationally in the 1999 class, Alijah is ranked in the top 10. Of course, Gilbert went on to have an electrifying 11-year NBA career, averaging 20.7 points, 5.3 assists, and 3.9 rebounds while becoming a three-time All-Star. The question now is—can Alijah top those numbers? With his talent, it’s not out of reach.
But that’s not all. Alijah’s next big stage might be the 2025 McDonald’s All-American Game, set for April 1 at the Barclays Center. During this game he will go against another former NBA star Carlos Boozer’s sons Cameron and Cayden Boozer. The nation’s best high school players will go head-to-head, and with his name in the mix, all eyes are on young Arenas.
