Can Magic Johnson's personal success inspire the team to overcome Cameron Brink's injury setback?

If there is one thing about Magic Johnson as a team owner—he is quite supportive of his players. And multiple lunch outings with his Washington Commanders’ players are a reflection he cares for their off-the-field wellbeing as well. No wonder that despite the fact Cameron Brink could not contribute to his team, LA Sparks, he could not help but be elated for the WNBA rookie’s personal life development.

As the W now knows, Cameron Brink announced on September 30th, in an IG post, that she is officially engaged. The post featured Brink and her boyfriend Ben Felter in Paris with one of the most romantic setups possible. Yes, the Eiffel Tower in the background as Felter went down on his knees to pop the question.

“Yes in every lifetime…” read the caption to the post. Responding to the same, Magic Johnson took to his X account to extend best wishes to the newly engaged couple. “Congratulations@cameronbrink22,” he wrote.

As evident by their social media handles, the two have been dating since March 2021, both having attended Stanford. While Brink, as we all know, was involved with her basketball stints, Felter at the time was in the college’s rowing team. However, unlike his girlfriend, Ben pursued the path of academics. Having graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, he is now pursuing his Masters degree from Stanford itself.

Apart from this, he also worked as a part-time portfolio analyst with the Defense Innovative Unit in 2022. Meanwhile, Brink was making a name for herself in her college basketball scenario. Not only did she claim an NCAA championship with Stanford Cardinal, but also grabbed herself the 2024 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year.

Have an interesting take?

No wonder that Magic Johnson co-owned LA Sparks selected her with the 2nd overall pick. The 22-year-old was showcasing her defensive prowess at WNBA as well with 2.3 blocks per game until an ACL injury cut her season short. However, it seems the time off the court resulted in her personal life blossoming to a new level. As evident from the recent pictures of her moment of proposal.

As mentioned earlier, the god-sister to Stephen and Seth Curry had some free time on her plate because of the ACL injury. Recovery and getting back as soon as possible is a priority and that has only seemed to have pushed her into acquiring calming interests. Brink revealed in an interview with PEOPLE that her boyfriend introduced her to a new hobby. One which later became her favorite pastime.

“My boyfriend has turned me into a huge art lover… I love pottery and watercolor, even though I’m terrible,” she said. The 22-year-old mentioned how working her brain in a different way is something she has really enjoyed apart from her other joys of hers.

“I take pride in doing my own hair and makeup a lot. I love to do my own makeup,” she added. More than just the glam factor, the Brink finds the whole process meditative. Well, whatever she is doing in her professional and personal life, it seems she has all the support and blessings from her team co-owner, Magic Johnson, who celebrated her first Olympic selection, prayed for her speedy recovery, and now wished well for the new leap.
