Even a twisted ankle couldn’t slow down Dwyane Wade. From showing off his style at events with his daughter Zaya to hosting a lively Thanksgiving bash, Wade has been on the move. Just when fans thought he’d take a breather, he made another appearance, this time with his wife, Gabrielle Union, at a Miu Miu fashion event. And if that wasn’t enough, Wade popped up at Art Basel, Miami Beach, alongside another basketball star and he couldn’t resist pulling some leg.
For some basketball representation at the Miami Art Week, Dwyane Wade and Rae Burrell were among the attendees. The two caught up under the new 3×3 league, Unrivaled’s banner, posing with the newly unveiled Wilson basketball in the blue and white colorway for the league. With co-founders Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier’s painting making the highlight, looks like Burrell and Wade had some great time too and it wasn’t just evident from the snaps LA Sparks shared.
“@raehoops can’t guard me,” Dwyane Wade joked under the post. But Burrell didn’t back down, firing back in the most playful way: “@dwyanewade check up thennn 🤣.”

Burrell’s presence at the event ties back to her announcement last November, when she confirmed she’d be joining Unrivaled’s 2025 season. The debut season is scheduled to tip off on January 17, 2025, in Miami, hence the Art Basel presence. But Unrivaled plans to expand nationwide by 2026.
For now, the league’s first season will feature six teams—Laces, Lunar Owls, Mist, Phantom, Rose, and Vinyl Basketball Clubs—battling it out from January through March. The top four teams will advance to a single-elimination playoff, where the first-ever champions will be crowned.
Burrell makes one of the 36 players in the foundation team after averaging 5.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.8 steals in the past WNBA season. Having signed a multi-year contract extension with the Sparks following that, the 24-year-old is turning out to be one of the key players for the franchise. Her Unrivaled team, Vinyl, head coach Teresa Weatherspoon describes her as “shooter, defensive player, energy,” and someone with high ceiling.

No doubt she can take up a challenge guarding Wade. But the Miami Heat legend, away from NBA for about 5 years now, and with recently twisted ankle, could think again. But considering the injury hasn’t stopped him from showing up in support of women’s basketball, it could be a sight to catch.

Dwyane Wade overlooks ankle injury
Dwyane Wade has been a vocal advocate for women’s basketball, going on to become a co-owner of Chicago Sky as well. His family plays a huge role in the decision but isn’t limited to just them. He hopes for equality, thinking of the future. “I want, you know, young girls, grow up and know that, you know, this league is a league that can do the same thing for them that, like, it did for our family,” he said via CBS News. “It can change your life.”
So when it came to showing up, even in the littlest of manners, Wade was there.

Just days after him and daughter Zaya turned heads at a Revolve event, the Flash suffered an ankle injury during a gym session. This was just before Thanksgiving. Despite the setback, he bashed the holiday with his loved ones. Between indulging in a hearty meal and karaoke fun, Wade spent much of the day caring for his injured ankle. He shared his recovery efforts on Instagram, posting a video of him soothing his foot in ice water. “Rolled my ankle in the gym yesterday and this was me last night… Today, I’m paying for it,” he wrote.
But, as always, Wade didn’t let the injury slow him down.
