From one-on-one interactions with Commanders’ stars to celebrating players’ personal achievements — Magic Johnson is an active franchise owner. The most recent instance of this has been the former LA Lakers star celebrating his team Los Angeles Sparks’ win. And in doing so, he also spotlighted the team’s four players for their brilliant performances against the 2x reigning champions.

Notably, the Sparks secured a 96-92 win against 2022 & 23 WNBA champs, Las Vegas Aces, tying their season series 1-1. “BIG time win for my Sparks at home! Dearica Hamby and Aari McDonald led all scorers with 18 and 16 points, but rookie Rickea Jackson and Rae Burrell took charge late in the game to help secure the victory!” Johnson posted on X.

It was A’ja Wilson who scored the most points (31) from either of the teams, backed by Kelsey Plum’s 24 and Tiffany Haye’s 17 points. However, the Sparks received enough contributions off the bench to secure a win for themselves. The Sparks now have 4 wins this season against their 7 losses and are now on a 2-game winning streak. Notably, the Sparks have won 3 WNBA championships since the team came into existence in 1997, of which one championship came after Magic Johnson joined as the co-owner of the team.

Meanwhile, his NFL team Washington Commanders won 2 NFL championships (pre-1970 AFL–NFL merger) and 3 Super Bowls, but the team has won no title under Johnson’s tenure as a minority owner. This explains his series of tweets expressing his disappointment during last season when the team had a terrible run. And also the reason he has had one-on-one meetings with some players from his NFL team.

The most recent of these was with the 33-year-old NFL star Bobby Wagner. Notably, Wagner landed with the Commanders this March itself. As per the media reports, one reason for this is the Commanders’ head coach Dan Quinn and linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. However, Wagner’s meeting with Buck was not limited to the discussions regarding football.

In fact, the NBA star turned billionaire provided business guidance to the 33-year-old, who is also pursuing an MBA. “Today I had lunch with Bobby Wagner, a Super Bowl Champion and current Washington Commander linebacker. I was impressed by Bobby’s entrepreneurial mindset and provided him with tips on how to scale his business and building wealth!” Johnson wrote in his IG post featuring their photo from the lunch outing.

Prior to this, the 5x NBA champ had also had a one-on-one lunch meeting with the Commanders’ Terry McLaurin. As per the 12x All-Star’s post, the two had discussions on football, life after football, and McLaurin’s entrepreneurial aspirations. And there could be more of these meets with the NFL season starting in August this year.
