Will Kiyan Anthony's college choice shape his legacy or keep him in Carmelo's shadow?

Meeting the commissioner, and shaking their hand during the NBA draft day, is a surreal feeling for any upcoming athlete. Carmelo Anthony had his moment in 2003 when the Denver Nuggets signed the star player as their #3 pick. Kiyan Anthony too hopes to follow in those footsteps, but recently revealed his meeting with Adam Silver.

You met the commissioner of the NBA. He knows you? He tagged you?” AJ Dybantsa said in a conversation with Carmelo Anthony’s son. But Kiyan interjected, denying any such closeness with the NBA Commissioner. “I had a weird moment with him, bro.” The 17-year-old continued, “I walked past Adam Silver, my pops dabbed him up. You know when you try to dab somebody up and somebody gives you the fist bump. I did that with him and felt mad uncomfortable.”

Slam High School, with 1.7 million followers, added the post on Instagram. “When Kiyan met the commissioner of the NBA 👀🔥 Link in story for the SLAM Summer Classic Vol. 6 DELETED SCENES presented by @nba2k 🍿 @kiyananthony @aj.dybantsa.” Kiyan Anthony even added, “😂” in the comments section.

When Angel Reese asked him if he is more focused on the NBA or if he would want to stay in College for two or three years, he said, “If one-and-done happens, it happens.” The #1 player in New York was on Angel Reese’s ‘Unapologetically Angel’ podcast when he spoke about the future. But before that, Carmelo Anthony in August laid down a challenge for his son. “I would like to see him like experience like winning the high school championship.”

Before the 2025 recruitment, Kiyan would like to do the same. Until the start of this year, Kiyan was averaging nearly 10.3 points, 2.4 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game for Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.), the No. 3-ranked team in the National Top 10. However, the future decision of the college will be official soon.

Previously, there were six options for the 6-foot-5 guard. However, this was later narrowed down to three. A few days ago, recruiting analyst Dushawn London on X, wrote, “NEWS: Kiyan Anthony, a Top 35 prospect in the class of 2025 will announce his college decision Friday, November 15th on his father’s show 7pm in Brooklyn. Anthony is the son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony. Finalists: Syracuse, USC, and Auburn.”

Carmelo Anthony did the audience a favor by removing one such name before the official announcement. On the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the 10x All-Star revealed, “I’m a little nervous but yes. He is deciding which college he wants to go to. It’s down to two. It’s down to Syracuse and USC.”

On3 too predicts a solid 93.7% chance of Syracuse being the preferred destination. Many other recruiting experts believe the same with detailed reports on why other programs don’t stand a chance. Ultimately, everybody will be waiting for the decision, whichever way it plays out. Kiyan Anthony would then be hoping his draft day handshake ain’t “weird” post his college career.
