Kendrick Lamar and Drake are all that the hip-hop world wants to talk about. Lamar’s album dissing the Grammy winner Drake had the world waiting for what’s next in this cold war. Both rappers are equally criticized and praised for their sharp jabs. Needless to say, the beef between the two celebrated rappers has split the fans in two. Rather involved among the spectators is Lamar’s long-lost cousin, sharing his opinion on the rapper.

Former NBA player Nick Young is not very impressed by his cousin’s gesture toward the person who helped him. In his conversation with DJ Vlad, the retired NBA player shared that it did not sit right with him that Lamar nestled a feud with Drake who helped him when he was just a rising star. “I was kind of disappointed. He tried to do like the little Jay-Z lines in there. But still he should he just like cuz D I feel like Drake helped him more,” the former Los Angeles Lakers player said.

Drake gave Kendrick Lamar his own interlude on the 2011 album “Take Care.” And as mentioned by DJ Vlad, he brought Lamar along for the Club Paradise tour, which also featured J. Cole, A$AP Rocky, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, Waka Flocka Flame, and others.

DJ Vlad and Nick also criticized the famed rapper J’Cole who was also aimed at on Lamar’s diss track. In response, he released an album ‘Might Delete Later’ dissing his rival. But later, he apologized for it and took it down from the streaming sites. The two opined “when you see everybody taking a shot at your mans and you bow out this situation that’s crazy.” Nonetheless, they agreed that J Cole is a great artist but this one just wasn’t his best. As the conversation drew up to being ‘homies,’ ready to defend one another, Young was asked about reminded of his time with Kendrick Lamar growing up.

Kendrick Lamar and Nick Young share fond memories

Nick grew up with Lamar. In a previous interview, he revealed that he is cousins with rappers Lamar and Baby Keem. Although he never met Baby Keem, Nick had more than a few basketball sessions with Lamar.

During a conversation with DJ Vlad, Nick shared that Lamar is his cousin on his dad’s side. Despite Lamar’s short height, the two often played basketball together. Nick recalled the disconnection they experienced as he joined the league. Later in the episode, Swaggy P mentioned his surprise at seeing his cousin become one of the celebrated rappers.

Nick said, “He used to hoop with us a little bit he was just shorter. He added, “I got to the league I didn’t see him for a while and next thing you know he just popped up being Kendrick Lamar, one of the best rappers so I’m like oh that’s damn.”  He further added that his mother didn’t let them go to Compton, so the rapper always had to come to their place whenever they wanted to hang out. But as the distance grew wider, Young was out being an NBA champion was Lamar was standing as a Pulitzer Prize for Music awardee the very same year.
