Not mincing words in criticism against players, teams, and coaches, comes as a common practice among analysts. The consequences of this, for Kendrick Perkins, have been felt in the form of scrutiny from the fans, possibly being left out of the 2024 Celtics Parade, and most popularly, LeBron James unfollowing him. However, that hasn’t stopped the former Boston star from putting forth his views. When the LA Lakers announced JJ Redick’s new position, LeBron’s 2003 draft class surely had some choice words for him.

On the Mark Jackson Show, the NBA champion was asked Perkins about the whole ordeal of the 4x NBA champion unfollowing him. And whether his comments on Jesus were taken out of context. Perkins once again said, “And look I’m a follower of Jesus but everybody didn’t follow Jesus.” Reiterating the fact that he was okay if LeBron was not following him.

He further explained that he has been one of the biggest advocates of the 4x MVP Finals and only twice has he ever said something against LeBron. The instance further prompted him to say, he is only being truthful when he disagrees with LeBron not being involved in the Lakers’ decision to bring in Redick.

I’m sitting up here saying like stop stop,” he recalls saying after the Lakers star’s agent, Rich Paul stated that LeBron had nothing to do with the hiring process. The former Celtics champ thinks any franchise players always had a say in big moves that go on in the organization, especially someone with the role King James has in the Lakers. “Let’s not sit up here and lie to the public about that like that’s a real thing,” said Perkins.

He said that it was not a shot at LeBron, it was just what he had experienced. And if the Lakers org and LeBron believed in Redick then they should accept it publically.

“It’s okay if you didn’t want Darvin Ham there, if JJ’s your guy, just stand on it. That’s my biggest thing,” Perkins adds. LeBron James, aside, the former Celtics star is quite on board with Redick joining the Lakers, but he sure has some words for the new HC and the franchise.

Kendrick Perkins is on board with the hiring of JJ Redick but with a little warning

Before the rumors turned news on JJ Redick’s hiring, Perkins had revealed he had did want to see the former Mavs star in the HC position for the Lakers. But he wanted Redick to change one about about himself: attitude. While he appreciates Redick’s basketball IQ and his knowledge of Xs and Os, he believes JJ losing his “snobby Duke attitude,” would do him good in the locker room.

Now that the news is official, Perkins names Anthony Davis as a concern in the mix. “I wanna see how it goes with Anthony Davis… If JJ Redick is not thriving and Anthony Davis is not playing at an elite level and he’s not happy, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wants out of LA,” he remarked. But Perkins need not worry.

According to reports, JJ Redick seems to have just the plans for AD, which has also impressed the Lakers. As for now, the talks to bring in Rajon Rondo has been well commended by analysts who believe it builds a perfect bridge for Redick in communicating with Anthony Davis.

Now as the matters progress, Perkins reveals he will keep a close eye on the entire situation. And with the parties involved, it might not just be him keeping a keen eye out.
