Is Jeff Teague right about Kobe's game lacking grace, or is he just being a hater?

Jeff Teague’s comment almost had the Gils Arenas speechless. After declaring his dislike for Kobe Bryant‘s playing style in his Club 520 Podcast, the former NBA player reveals the reason behind it. As a viewer of the game, Teague believes that Bryant’s game wasn’t as seamless and brilliant as the other players. It could be why he didn’t like to watch the Mamba on the court. And, in an urge to explain the difference, he mentioned Paul George and Kevin Durant.

As per Teague, both PG and KD delivered a smooth and effortless game while Kobe would pump fake and contact with the defenders whenever necessary, which is something he’s not a great fan of. It wasn’t smooth to me when I watch Paul George I’m not comparing him to Kobe at all when I’m watching it smooth it’s like one-two to pull up K (Kevin Durant) jab one step it was smooth Kobe’s was like jab get there ah pump fake pump fake pump fake get him off the ground foul shot and one it was effective it was a dog; I just didn’t like watching it didn’t look as graceful to me that’s all,” Teague said.

Kobe’s 5 NBA titles explain how tough and complicated his pump fake maneuver was. His footwork was extraordinary during this particular move and was one of the excellent pump fake makers. Adding to his brilliance was his attention to detail, which helped him against any pump fake by his opponents.

He even pump-faked LeBron James during his last game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Many loved watching it but there might be some who didn’t and we now know Teague is one of them. During his podcast, he said the same thing about Bryant trying hard with his moves.

We are not sure whether Bryant was aware of it, but the 5x NBA champ certainly wanted Teague to be on the Lakers roster.

Have an interesting take?

It was in 2014, just two years before Bryant’s retirement. The Los Angeles Lakers were focused on building a championship contender roster, and Bryant suggested that the front office acquire Teague. However, the 36-year-old refused the offer, citing the heavy taxation in LA as the issue. During the same show, Teague explained the situation to the Gils Arena crew and the listeners.

Teague’s refusal led to a different player joining the Lakers roster. This new player was the Taiwanese player Jeremy Lin. However, according to Teague, Mamba (Bryant) wasn’t satisfied with the new addition. Teague recalled that when he first met Bryant on the court for a Lakers vs. Hawks game after this, the Lakers legend asked him whether he was scared to join the Lakers.

We played him [Kobe], he had Jeremy Lin. In the middle of the game, he was like, ‘You left me out here with this sh*t … I told them to go and get you. Were you scared?’” Teague said on the podcast.

While he confessed that he didn’t like the NBA legend’s playing style, Teague is still very much a Kobe fan and always acknowledged his greatness
