The 7x Super Bowl champ is finding it hard to fill in the shoes of Greg Olsen. At least, that’s what the mass opinion on social media platforms is about Tom Brady’s broadcasting debut for Fox Sports. This came in Week 1’s matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns. Amid all that was going on social media, even ex-NBA star Eddie Johnson first seemed to criticize the 5x Super Bowl MVP.
In a post on X, Johnson called Brady “arguably” the NFL GOAT. But pointed out his struggle in analyzing a game on national TV. He believes the issue is with Brady seeming to think about every word before that comes out of his mouth. However, when one X user demanded that Johnson should let The Pharao have his time, it turned out the ex-NBA star has hope for Tom’s future as a broadcaster.
“Of course he will get better… who said he would not…” he wrote. In fact, he even had a suggestion for the 7x Super Bowl champ’s initial struggle. Eddie Johnson mentioned it’s rather better to speak effortlessly on TV, and even if you make a mistake, just move on with it.

Tom Brady is arguably the Goat in playing football, but he is finding out its not easy analyzing a game non stop and especially on national TV. Words are not flowing because he is thinking every word before it comes out of his mouth. Its ok to make a mistake on tv and move on!

The advice could be beneficial for Brady in the long run. Replacing Greg Olsen as the lead commentator on Fox Sports, he will now work on a team that includes play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt and reporters — Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi. This comes as a part of Fox’s 10-year, $375 million deal with the ex-NFL star, signed in 2022.
Yes, Brady was supposed to start with the job last NFL season itself, but he decided to wait till 2024. Wondering how the fans of the NFL legend have responded to his debut? Well, he has mostly garnered mixed reviews with varied opinions on X.
Some showed an understanding of this being Tom’s first attempt, which will get better with time. Meanwhile, multiple X users outright bashed the former NFL star. “I’ll say Tom Brady is absolutely dog sh*t and Fox should be ashamed of what they did to Greg Olsen,” wrote one. While the response to Brady’s broadcasting debut has been a mixed one, the support for Olsen has mostly been consistent among majority opinions.
What’s Greg Olsen’s status with Fox Sports?
Let us make it clear that Fox did not replace Olsen as the lead commentator because of something he did or anything that he failed to do. If anything, the move should mostly be seen as Fox trying to cash on Tom Brady’s popularity as the legend of the league. And even Olsen did not seem to have anything against the network, even after the replacement.
In an interview with The Athletic’s Richard Deitsch, the 39-year-old stated he will now focus on the entire spectrum of opportunities. This includes Fox and other networks as well, as per his statement. But he did not leave an ounce of doubt against his gratefulness for the Fox Sports.

“Fox [decision-makers] were the ones that believed in me from the beginning… No one was adamant about my future in this business as much as Fox was. I’ll forever be grateful for that,” Olsen said. The most recent updates suggest Gregg will still be with Fox for some big matchups. But with the No. 2 crew of the network. Being part of the same network, the 39-year-old could share some pointers to help Brady fill the gap that fans are pointing to now.
Stay tuned for more such updates. And join us for the exciting second episode of the “Dual Threat Show” as our host BG12 sits down with Georgia Bulldogs star and Mountain West All-Freshman Team Selection, Asia Avinger.
