Another one of the game’s most recognizable and talented stars decided to step away for good this year. Carmelo Anthony molded a decorated NBA career for himself. In his illustrious journey, he won a scoring title and even solidified himself as one of the greatest offensive players of all time. He had the All-Stars, and the All-NBAs, yet one possession could never be his – an NBA championship. But for one moment, he shared 16 titles.
In 2005, a young Melo met up with one of the best and most eminent wrestling figures in all of history – John Cena. They stood together for a picture which is now creating storms once again.

Carmelo Anthony and John Cena met in 2005
Both Melo and Cena were young in their careers, only getting started in crafting their untouchable legacies. The NBA great was on the Denver Nuggets in his second season, fresh off an electric rookie year. He averaged 20.8 points that season, showing signs of maturity in his game. He was an unstoppable scoring machine, roughing up defenders in the post and sizzling crowds with his footwork. His ceiling was boundless, and so was Cena’s.

John Cena was navigating his way to become the everlasting face of the WWE. The 16-time world champion was far from his now disciplined and inspiring image. This Cena was brutal, a wizard on the mic, nailing every promo he was a part of. It was his rapping era, which he famously brought back in 2023.
The duo met in 2005, both baby faces with intentions to conquer their own worlds. If only they knew decades later, they both would be amongst the best to ever perform their crafts. Seventeen years after the moment, Melo found it on his feed once again. His reaction was a classic, to say the least. “I only see me though,” he wrote.

And now, even the NBA fans are joining in.
NBA Twitter erupts after the iconic photo resurfaces
As NBA Twitter saw the picture from 2005, the energy instantly rose. It is indeed a cold picture. However, some purists can’t help but imply humor in these moments. And so they pinched Melo for having won a championship because he was beside John Cena.

But some fans noticed a peculiar detail – Melo was standing alone in the picture. “I just see a picture of Carmelo Anthony,” wrote one fan, while another commented, “It’s just a pic of Melo and a stick lol?” Cena’s legendary entrance theme and taunt, “You can’t see me” have become an iconic meme for this generation.
