A reborn Simone Biles has given Team USA a golden chance to celebrate before the Olympics has wrapped. With the American gymnast’s redemptive finish, the all-time gold tally for Team USA hit a jawdropping 3,000 – the most by any nation in Olympic history. Pau Gasol had a front-row seat to this moment. The 3x Olympian, who’s on a high in his personal life too, had to celebrate the sensational moment for Team USA and the GOAT who made it happen.
He was on X, amid the games in Paris, writing, “What a performance once again @USAGym!! And congrats to the whole @TeamUSA on becoming the first country to obtain 3000 olympic medals.”
It came with a sweet family picture of the Gasols with the USA gymnasts getting their pictures with the Star-Spangled Banner in the background. The 2x NBA champion was with his wife, Cat McDonnell and three-year-old daughter, Elisabet Gianna. Their toddler son, Max was missing. Only a day ago, Gasol announced that he and Cat are expecting their third child together.

Gasol has been very occupied this Olympic season with his wife and kids in tow. For months, he had been a strong advocate for gender equality leading up to the Olympics. He arrived in Paris as one of the torch-bearers representing Spain. Though he’s retired from playing, he did play for his homeland thrice and won two silvers and a bronze.

Soon after announcing Gasol #5, it was back to business at a gender equality summit. The Spaniard proceeded to cheer for Carlos Alcaraz at his match followed by attending the Spain basketball team games with former teammates and later watching F.A.A.F.O – that’s the new, unofficial, NSFW nickname Biles has given to the Team USA gymnasts. And why not!
Team USA gives a lot to cheer about
The 2021 Tokyo Olympics had been mentally and emotionally challenging for the gymnasts. But Team USA resolved to bounce back. Headed into Paris, the US had 2,975 Olympic golds between both summers and winters to its name. The F.A.A.F.O. did what the abbreviation implies, but brilliantly, through multiple difficulties in the past three years. Biles, Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera have led the team to another triumph with brilliance.
So far the American squad has collected 26 medals in this year’s games. The latest wins by the gymnasts and other athletes have brought the Team USA’s all-time record to 3,000.

The men’s team meets South Sudan for its second game on July 31. The ladies play against Belgium on August 1. Whether the hoopsters make that tally 3,002 remains to be seen. Pau Gasol though, will have his time divided between Team USA and Spain.
