It’s not a rare thing for NBA players to show interest in other major sports as well. Charles Barkley and Stephen Curry have been seen engaging in occasional rounds of golf, Dennis Rodman frequently hangs out with Mike Tyson and Shaquille O’Neal loves a good UFC fight. Another former athlete who enjoys a similar pastime is Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson.

Johnson recently witnessed the remarkable fight between the two welterweight contenders and took to social media to share his review.

35-year-old Terence Crawford and 33-year-old Errol Spence Jr recently fought to crown the king of the welterweight division. The highly anticipated match was held in Las Vegas. Nearly 20,000 fans were in attendance, with thousands more around the world tuning in live.

The boxers entered the ring as the top contenders in each ‘pound-for-pound’ category.

Errol Spence tried to keep up throughout the night, but Crawford was just too fast. After ‘The Truth’ got knocked down twice in the 7 round, the fight that started off on 50-50 odds seemed to be establishing a clear winner.

As the 9 round progressed, Spence’s face was hardly recognizable. Crawford delivered punch after punch forcing the referee to jump in and call the result of the match. Terence Crawford was declared the undisputed winner of the welterweight division.

Magic Johnson tips his hat to undefeated Crawford

While he was not in attendance, Magic Johnson did follow the match as it happened.

Feeling elated at the victory, the 63-year-old took to Twitter to share his views with his followers. Without attaching a single picture or even an emoji, Johnson wrote that Crawford “put on a boxing clinic last night” and dominated his opponent.

He concluded the tweet by saying that the 35-year-old will probably assume his place in history as “one of the greatest welterweights of all time”. With the latest 9th-round TKO, ‘Bud’ now holds a record of 40-0.

The 5x NBA Champion has held an interest in the world of boxing for quite some time now. It was only last year when he congratulated Errol Spence Jr on his victory against a different opponent. During a Q and A session with ES News, Johnson explains his passion for the sport by imagining “two gladiators” taking their position in the ring and establishing their dominance by keeping a singular goal in mind.
