Just like several other athletes from the NBA, Magic Johnson has made key investments after retirement to establish a sky-high net worth. During his entire career, the 5x NBA champion earned an astonishingly low amount of $40 million. Time back then did not help. Nonetheless, with great business acumen, Magic has joined hands with a billionaire core member of the Philadelphia 76ers to step foot into the NFL. What stands as a highlight is how Johnson beat both Jeff Bezos and a former NBA veteran in this tight race for bid.

Not many NBA veterans have invested in the NFL. Regardless, Johnson decided to be a part of the group that bid above $6 billion for an NFL team. Though there were bidders ready to give more than this massive amount, Johnson somehow managed to strike the deal, which has left him on cloud nine.

Former Minnesota Timberwolves veteran Brian Davis was a hot name in the NFL a few months back. His career was cut short soon after he joined the NBA, but Davis managed to keep his reputation with some major investments. Although it looked like Magic, along with a Sixers core member, was going to bag the massive deal, Davis stepped in late to favor the odds.

Johnson and group had made an exorbitant offer of more than $6 billion for the Washington Commanders. The 3x NBA Finals MVP would have history by becoming the first NFL black owner. However, it looks like Brian Davis wanted that tag!

The 2-time NCAA champion joined the race with a humongous bid of $7 billion. In addition, he was ready to send $1 billion as cash immediately! Well, Davis was not the only one to step in. $160 billion worth Jeff Bezos was reportedly ready to make a bid as well. However, Johnson has now officially bagged the deal to show he still has the clutch tendency.

He also mentioned, “Many people don’t know I’ve done business in the Washington, DC area for many years. I was one of the owners of the Washington Hilton, I built multiple Starbucks franchises and Magic Johnson Theaters, and empowerment centers with the Magic Johnson Foundation.” But whose group was Magic part of?
