Does Dak Prescott really deserve that $240 million, or is this just another overhyped NFL contract?

Not every day that a few athletes are on the same page as Jason Whitlock. But the Dak Prescott contract has united them in spirit. Some basketball guys who love football had to clutch their pearls when the Dallas Cowboys gave the quarterback a $240 million extension. But contract negotiations are a results-oriented business. The condition for becoming the highest-paid player in the NFL is leading the Cowboys to a championship. At least Charles Barkley and Nate Robinson think that’s not happening, and don’t think the salary is proportionate to his body of work. Whitlock even summarized the sentiment.

Whitlock called himself the “dumbest football expert” by picking the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl. He followed it up with another post on X why his confidence was shaky. “The absurdity of paying Dak Prescott $60 mil a year makes football hard to watch. I don’t mean that as a shot at Dak. How did we build a society that pays people so much for doing so little?

Dallas confirmed the deal hours before the deadline. Prescott walked into the Dallas season-opener as the highest-paid quarterback on the field and in the league. NBA legend, Nate Robinson, saw the news on social media and reacted as most did.

He wrote, “WOW,” with a mindblown emoji first. But the subsequent series of comments painted a bigger picture. He went from, “Bro what,” to “Never won a playoff game ever and got paid.” The Slam Dunk champion is battling kidney disease but it’s great to see football riling him up this much. He’s not entirely wrong either.

Criticism has dogged Prescott’s entire career. Fans on social media could not justify the big payday when he has failed to win in playoffs and holds a 2-5 record. The Cowboys haven’t made an NFC championship since 1995. Fans think that the team has put a $240 million target on Prescott’s back instead of giving him an incentive. Prescott indirectly responded to the critics by calling this contract strictly “business.” Barkley called the entire business “stupid” though.

Charles Barkley has a similar take on Dak Prescott

What’s your perspective on:

Does Dak Prescott really deserve that $240 million, or is this just another overhyped NFL contract?

Have an interesting take?

Charles Barkley and Nate Robinson banter but they’re cool with each other. However, you’d pull a muscle looking for any instance of Barkley and Whitlock sharing the same opinion. They’re not exactly friendly. While Whitlock puts his money on the Cowboys, Barkley is backing the Eagles as he does every year. But their take on Dak Prescott is identical.

On the day the contract was announced, Barkley bluntly said,I think all these guys are stupid to be honest with you,” on The Roc and Manuch Show. He believes Prescott should’ve followed the Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes blueprint. Both are accomplished but were never the top, let alone the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. The purpose, Chuck says, is to keep the cap space to build a strong roster around them.

The Cowboys do want Prescott to do what Brady and Mahomes have done. But Barkley ominously pointed out that no athlete who became the highest-paid player won a championship right after. We’d have to see whose prophecy comes true.
