When asked if he would consider announcing a LIV golf tournament, Charles gave a rather unexpected answer. He said that he was given the opportunity to host Monday Night football. Chuck went on to say that it was over 20 years ago, and he respectfully turned it down.
He told the organizers that he loves the sport but doesn’t know enough about it to announce it to the viewer’s satisfaction.
Charles Barkley continued with his reasoning on why he thought he wasn’t a good fit.
He talked about when he and his friend used to get together on the weekends and watch sports together. Chuck blamed the quarterback for the plays, but his friends disagreed and pointed out the other player’s mistake.
Further information from his friends also made him realize that he didn’t know much about the details of the sport. He added that a person who hasn’t played the sport can never fully understand what’s happening on the field.
Charles further commented that there are already enough people who have never played sports talking on TV.
Barkley added that everyone who’s a professional athlete is good at their sport. Not everyone can be on the same level as LeBron or KD, but they are all good players.
Charles Barkley shared his thoughts on football players
Even though The Round Mound of Rebound had high praise for professional athletes, he wasn’t always fond of football players. In an interview with Conan O’Brien, he was asked if he ever played football. Barkley then confessed that he quit football after one day of playing.
Charles understood the amount of damage a player takes on a regular basis while playing football. This made him give out the hilarious statement – “I played football one day in my life, then I realized they were a bunch of damn idiots.”
