Owing to the start of a new NFL season, a lot of teams come in with hopes. While some are potentially aiming for contender status, others look for increments from last season’s performance. The newly acquired Magic Johnson team strongly falls in the category of the latter. However, two weeks in, they might be looking for a change in competing status. In a stark contrast from last year, the $5.6 billion franchise is off to a rocketing start.

Following a nail-biter of a second-week contest, the Los Angeles Lakers legend was in congratulatory mode for his team’s success.

After starting last year with a 2-4 record, this record is a far different story. Within 2 weeks, the Washington Commanders have quickly taken to the top of the NFC standings. While the quality of their opponents is questionable, their play isn’t. For Johnson, the credit goes to two people in particular. As an offensive mastermind and passing wizard himself, Magic’s first word of congratulations went to his offense.

I just witnessed my @Commanders win a thriller today against Denver 35-33! QB Sam Howell threw 2 touchdowns and RB Brian Robinson Jr. ran for 2!”

The 5-time NBA Champion would continue his assessment of his team for his 5.2 million X followers, with a defensive breakdown as well.   “It was good to get a road victory and feels great to be 2-0! Our defense had 7 sacks and stepped up when they needed to.”

But, like a true veteran, Magic knows how important keeping the focus is. “My Commanders should celebrate tonight because tomorrow, it’s time to get back to work and focus on the Bills next Sunday!”

Magic’s sentiment goes with the iconic words of Kobe Bryant, “Job ain’t finished yet.”

After last year’s 8-win outing, the Commanders must surely feel on top of the world. Especially, after narrowly avoiding defeat in the final seconds.

After a relatively easy victory over the Arizona Cardinals, their second match was a game of runs.

While the Denver Broncos  started strong, they couldn’t hold on. Despite being up as much as 21-3, the team blew the entire lead, giving the Commanders a 35-24 lead. However, the team continued to fight.

It became a scary sight for Washington fans. With barely 3 seconds on the clock. Russell Wilson connected on a 50-yard Hail Mary that saw the ball bounce twice off of Commanders players into Brandon Johnson’s hands. However, the ensuing field goal was no good.

Despite a furious rally from Denver, Washington hung on. Now, they go into Week 3 with a perfect record. With perennial contenders in their wake, the team would be wise to pay heed to Magic’s words.
