The uncensored sports commenter LaVar Ball has always been a notable figure in America. LaVar Ball, the father of NBA player Lonzo Ball, is infamous for his loud-mouthed comments. In his typical way, Ball recently aimed a direct hit on Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, in one of his podcast appearances that he could only make.

However, what did the comparisons say about LaVar?s view of coaching in the NBA and the Milli Vanilli of coaching; why did he relate Kerr to the band?

It was during the podcast when LaVar Ball explained it that Steve Kerr called him the ?Kardashian Of Basketball?. Such an interesting statement got a lot of attention: Why Kardashian? Or maybe Kerr meant the infamy of the Ball family and constant media exposure similar to the popular Kardashian family.

The man has not been shy about making news headliners out of his unapologetic stance and statements on his sons? career affairs.

“You call me Kardashian of basketball, you standing up coaching who gonna coach uh Steph Curry and Draymond Green and the other shooter Clay how do you coach them on the running system you don’t well hey let’s run this play they out there running and shoot.”

However, LaVar was not one to let this go unanswered. He tagged him the ?Milli Vanilli of Coaching? to those who recall that Milli Vanilli was a group that won awards for being music stars but didn?t sing. LaVar equated it in the above way implying that Kerr was congratulated for coaching a star team, whereby the real glory belonged to the three players including Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson.

The critique of Steve Kerr?s actions brought about questions concerning the role of an NBA coach. Granted, Kerr was fortunate enough to lead a team that had several of the league?s brightest stars. However, does that make him ?the Milli Vanilli of coaching??

Coaching in the NBA is difficult. It entails the management of individuals, strategy formulation, and critical decisions in play. Kerr is a former NBA player himself as well who took Oakland to multiple championships and the creation of a system that fits with his star players should in no way be undermined.

However, LaVar Ball?s statement does not allow us to forget the fact that the real heroes in the NBA are the NBA stars. However, the amazing talents and unmatched dedication of such players as Curry, Green, and Thompson are more often than not. The brash comparison by Lavar Ball, Steve Kerr and Milli Vanilli, calls for thought as to the role of coaching in the NBA.

As a coach, Kerr has achieved results, but Ball?s remarks point out the paramount of a superstar player in a team?s victory. It is a perspective that goes against the grain of the traditional thinking of what qualities make a great coach of a title-winning team in the NBA. Although spoken in Ball?s own manner, it will be appropriate to recall that it is the players, who eventually put on quite a performance.
