The more famous you are, the more money you can make off of your name. The structure is simple. Brands promote their products with your name and face attached to them, and in return, you get paid for them using your name, image, and likeness. But getting handed a large sum of money at a young age can negatively affect the minds of the kids.
Carmelo Anthony signed a whopping $22 million deal with the Jordan Brand when he got to the league. So he knew the pressure and the role he had to play because of the surrounding people. Unfortunately, the younger generation is not given information about what they have to do. This is something that Kevin Hart and Carmelo Anthony discussed during a recent episode of the podcast Gold Minds.

The New York Knicks legend spends a lot of time near high school games as his son is 16 years old, and brands are eyeing signing the up-and-comer to major deals. Carmelo Anthony stated that he spends most of his time with the younger generation. This is because kids from the age of 13 all the way to college do not have anyone to guide them.
Melo went on to say that he loves that NIL exists. The athletes should be able to make money based on the impact that they provide. But he is not happy that they are not given enough information regarding what to do with the money. Brands sometimes sign an athlete to be their face at the age of 16, but they are not given proper education on what to do or how to act accordingly.
They are just handed the money. Anthony knows that the younger generation does not really understand the NIL. So he wants to share his wisdom and knowledge because he himself signed a major deal with Jordan as soon as he got to the league.

Kevin Hart said, “You can’t just throw these kids this money and expect the f****** grace of God. You have to expect the wave“. This led to Anthony explaining that it’s not the money that is the problem, but the fact that there is not enough information surrounding the deals about how athletes should handle the money or even what the athletes are supposed to do with the deals they are signing.

Carmelo Anthony understands how most of the kids will be. Once they have a lot of money from the brand deals, they won’t be interested in going to class. They will only come for the games. But once the school and college careers are over, the brands will leave and go on to the next person. So then one has to start all over and figure out what one wants to do with life. Having years of experience in this field has allowed Anthony to share all this with his son.
16-year-old Kiyan recently signed a deal with PSD. This is a clothing and innerwear brand. Kiyan wants to express his fashion to the world, and this deal is perfect for him to do so. This was a major deal, and this skyrocketed Kiyan’s NIL valuation. After the deal was done, Kiyan’s valuation was $515,000. Carmelo knows that the deal also means that his son should be more careful of the things he does from now on.
