Did Eric Gordon's dunk in front of MJ prove he's got the guts to challenge greatness?

It’s not easy to get one up on Michael Jordan. But Eric Gordon achieved that status back in 2007, thanks to Marcus and Jeffrey. He would start his NBA career the same way the next year, with his 41-point performance against the OKC. That year, he also earned a selection for the All-Rookie team. However, many still remember his performance against the Jordans as his best ever. Speaking about the same, the current Philadelphia 76ers star explained the things he wanted to showcase during the high school match.

I was like, okay, every time when I get the ball, if I don’t have a catch and shoot, I’m going down, I’m taking it to the rack, like every time. Or I’m going to at least try to dunk, but the main thing that I really wanted was to do one of Jordan’s dunks in-game.” Not only did Eric Gordon wish to try the iconic Michael Jordan dunk, but EJ did so against Marcus and Jeffrey’s team right in front of MJ.

Hearing the wish, even Jeff Teague couldn’t help but say it was “disrespectful.” But Teague did not mean it in a negative sense, in fact, Gordon dunking meant the hunger and skills were on display for the world to see. E-Money also revealed his plans for how he was supposed to attack the Loyola Academy.

“You know, I didn’t know anything about Loyola Academy,” Gordon said via Club 520 Podcast. “When I watched them on film, and I was like, you know, everything’s evolved around the Jordan kids. Like they’re the best players on the team, and their team was small.” That’s when he decided to attack the rim from the word go and didn’t pay heed, even when Michael Jordan was in the stands.

I just got to show how good I was. I’d rather see my team win than scoring this many or show fantastic play, I’d rather see my team win.” Gordan said after the game, where he even wore the iconic #23.

Looking back at how Eric Gordon embarrassed Michael Jordan

Jeffrey Jordan had 3 of his high school games broadcasted on ESPN. The Loyola Academy vs North Central of Indianapolis game in discussion was one among them. Michael Jordan watched from the stand, cheering on his sons Marcus and Jeffrey as they played for one of the top schools in the country.

The Loyola team led in the early phases 15-7, but soon Eric Gordon took over and the game eventually ended as a blowout victory for the Indy team. He ended the night with 43 points, and 5 rebounds and scored 17 from 25 FG. Marcus and Jeffrey were very ineffective, to say the least, as they could only score 8 points combined.

If the 88-47 scoreline was not impressive enough, the icing on the cake of Gordon’s game was one of his dunks. In the final quarter, he went for a clutch reverse dunk which resembled Michael Jordan’s. So, not only did Eric Gordon wish for it, but he was successful in imitating MJ’s dunk with a historic performance.
