Bronny James has been a hot prospect long before he joined the USC program. Even before he had great performances under his belt, the son of LeBron James faced great scrutiny in his game.  One such assessment was made a few years ago by former Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas. Except it wasn’t from the outside looking in.

The 3x All-Star recently revealed that he got a special request from the King to keep an eye on his son and analyze his game as he came up. Agent Zero stepped up for the James family and took young Bronny to a practice.

Arenas talked about training Bronny James during his recent appearance on the ‘Podcast P’ with Paul George. The former NBA guard said, “When Bron and them came out this way he hit me in the DM saying,’He [Bronny] is gonna be working out…Can you put some eyes on him? I’m a little worried’.” Arenas was immediately on board and went on to watch the youngster’s game. At the time, Bronny was in the eighth grade, going into ninth, recalled Agent Zero.

After watching his game, Gilbert Arenas gave a detailed report on Bronny to LeBron James. The former Arizona Wildcat revealed the high praise he had for the teenager. “I hit him back and I said, ‘Yo, y’all probably got the same speed. Probably got the same passing skills. IQ damn near the same. At this age, he probably jumps a little bit higher. Probably a little bit stronger. He can definitely shoot better and dribble better than you’.”

After this assessment, LeBron James had another request for Agent Zero. He asked Arenas if he could train his son. The 42-year-old was game for that as well and added that he took Bronny James to UCLA for his training and “put him through the work.”

Even around the age of 14, Bronny James was showing former NBA players that he has the skills necessary to surpass his 4x champion father. After the training, Arenas called LeBron to inform him, “You ain’t gotta worry.” The 3x All-Star was full of praise for the teenager during his segment on ‘Podcast P’. But he also shared some valuable insight into his development.

The former NBA guard believes that the 19-year-old is more than equipped to take on the biggest of challenges, but for some reason, he is hesitant and is treading his path carefully.

Arenas explained, “That’s what’s holding him [Bronny] back. He plays the right way, he follows rules. We don’t know what he really is. He has the Bugatti engine, but he wants to drive the speed limit. He don’t want a ticket. ‘I don’t want a ticket.’ That’s how he uses his body.”

Whether that’s a backhanded compliment or not, it’s up to Bronny to figure out. One certain thing is that he will be eligible for the NBA in the 2024-25 season after which he could potentially share the hardwood with his father. Interestingly, Agent Zero also chimed in on LeBron’s youngest son.

Gilbert Arenas added that he even did some workouts with Bryce James when he was younger, adding that Bryce read every play correctly even at a younger age. “He probably might be the smartest one,” Arenas added on the James family. The 16-year-old is currently thriving at Sierra Canyon. Only time will tell if Gilbert Arenas’ assessment proves true or not.
