WNBA teams are using physicality as a factor to get into Caitlin Clark’s head. In the game between the Chicago Sky and the Indiana Fever, Chenndey Carter went a step further by pushing Clark to the floor during an inbounding play. Now, this controversial play by Carter is the talk on the internet, also catching the attention of a few NBA stars like Draymond Green and Chandler Parsons. While many support Clark on this play, a Golden State Warriors champion is ultimately throwing the blame on Indiana Fever for one main reason.

What would happen if a superstar in the NBA got a treatment similar to that of Clark? There would have been a likely brawl between the two teams, but one thing that is for sure is that a few teammates would come for backup. However, after Clark was bumped and pushed down, there was no response from her teammates. 2017 champion Matt Barnes called out the players of the Fever.

He shared, “Caitlin Clark says she got ‘cheap shot’ against the Sky. My issue and my question is where the f*** are her teammates at? Where are the rest of the Indiana Fever?” Barnes also called out Angel Reese for supporting her teammate Carter’s controversial play, “I’ve seen a couple of girl smirk when she’s got knocked down“.

He continued his criticism of the Fever, “Y’all are supposed to protect the asset, protect the star, and although this is the team, she’s a star. I was someone who protected the stars. You f*** with Kobe [Bryant], CP [Chris Paul], Blake [Griffin]…It’s going to be a problem. You wonder why you sit at the bottom of the league right nowY’all should be ashamed of it.” Barnes was not the only one to speak out.

Former Nuggets star Austin Rivers also had some words about this play. However, his criticism was not on the Fever.

Austin Rivers wants WNBA to be grateful for Caitlin Clark

Rivers shared an unexpected four minute video to show his support for Clark. It was not just about the play today, but also the unwanted physicality and hateful remarks she has been receiving for quite a long time. In fact, he requested the WNBA players to respect the “Caitlin Clark effect”.

Rivers tweeted, “We gotta stop the cap and all the hate some of y’all Woman are putting on Caitlin. Lbh on why people have such high interest all of sudden in woman’s basketball. The Caitlin Clark effect!!! It’s not only because of her, but it is mainly because of her! Cut the jealousy please.”

Caitlin Clark, often a subject to the instance stated that the answer would be to just accept, not retaliate, let it be what it is so that it won’t get to your head. “But it’s just like, respond, calm down and let your play do the talking.” she said.

We have two more games between the Sky and the Fever this month, on 15th and 23rd of June. After the dramatic scenes from game 1, it’s safe to say that the next two games will garner more attention. However, let’s hope it is a respectable game between the two.
