Caitlin Clark has taken the WNBA by storm, but has all the attention triggered an unwanted hate against her? There is no denying she attracted huge attention even before her debut in the league. So naturally, high hopes were placed on her for changing the WNBA scenario as well. Subsequently, the Pacers drafted her with a 4 year, $338,056 contract, which though said to be quite low, pays more than some of the seasoned WNBA stars. And Gilbert Arenas believes all of this has triggered a sense of disliking Clark in the league.

Arenas stated on his podcast that he understands the feeling when someone gets too much power, and too much money without earning it first. However, he emphasized people can’t be mad at Clark because there’s nothing she did wrong, but people just gravitated toward her playing style. Notably, Clark has not only sold out every game but ever since she signed with Indiana Fever, the WNBA online store witnessed a significant rise in revenue. So much so the revenue this season broke the 2023 sales record in less than a month.

Further in the podcast, Gilbert Arenas said, “We’re not saying you bow down to her, but the fact that you gotta take cheap shots… if you can’t just play defense and stop her the way you want, the fact that you gotta do things out of your character. If this is not your character, then you are angry about the situation. That’s the difference,” Gil said. This comes after the recent infamous incident of a hard foul by Chennedy Carter against Clark.

The 25-year-old Sky star gave Clark a shoulder push during inbounding, making her tumble down to the floor. However, Carter refused to speak about it during the post-game interview. The foul was perceived as a common foul, but the league recently upgraded it to a flagrant 1 violation. This finally made Carter break her silence on the entire issue.

Carter has ‘no regrets’ about what transpired with Caitlin Clark

Though Carter had refused to comment anything on the incident, she took to her social media handle to question Clark’s contribution to the league. “& that’s that on that cause beside three-point shooting what does she bring to the table man,” she wrote

After the league upgraded her foul against the Pacers star, she stated she is a competitor, and she will compete no matter who’s in front of her. “So that’s just what it was… Heat of the moment play. We’re getting at it. We’re getting back and forth. It’s basketball. It’s all hoops. After we finish the game, it’s all love,” she said.

As for Clark’s opinion on the entire issue, she mentioned in a post-game interview she was not expecting it. However, she took it as “it is what is” accepting this to be a physical game. The 22-year-old has placed it clear that she isn’t going to heed the noise. “Don’t let it get in your head and know it’s coming,” she had said previously, emphasizing on staying game-focused and sure seems to hold out on it.
