“When you’re healthy, you can do so many great things,” said Dwyane Wade once. Although the 3x NBA champ might have said it regarding his game, the former star is still continuing with his ‘great things‘ off the court. From establishing the Wade’s World Foundation in 2003, which has provided support to underserved youth, to his $2 million donation to the Willis Family Treatment Center in 2008, Wade has consistently demonstrated that true greatness isn’t measured solely by championship rings. But recently ‘The Flash’ might have inadvertently played cupid, as his latest community project became the backdrop for basketball’s hottest rumored romance.
The court dedication ceremony, a collaboration between Wade and Bam Adebayo, was hosted at the Chapman Partnership on Thursday, unveiling a newly designed basketball court to help the community. However, what caught the attention of eagle-eyed fans wasn’t just the charitable gesture, but the surprising appearance of Las Vegas Aces star and the reigning WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson at the event which was cleared through an Instagram post by ‘Big-B Media‘.
The rumored romance between Wilson and Adebayo has been a hot topic among basketball fans, with both athletes maintaining a diplomatic silence about their personal lives. It all started when both the centers were seen together during the 2024 Olympic Camps. “This just adds more buzz to the dating rumors that sparked right before the 2024 Paris Olympics, when they were spotted together in Las Vegas at Team USA’s training camp,” wrote TMZ last month.

Not only this but both the basketball players were seen together walking on a street in Indianapolis just hours after Wilson secured the single-season scoring title against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. “The six-time WNBA All-Star and Miami Heat hooper were among a group of people on a stroll down Market Street … and they appeared to be multitasking, as they had some grub in hand,” added TMZ.

Wilson’s presence during the court unveiling ceremony just adds one more layer to the rumor. But what was this court unveiling about? A few years back Wade had initially donated the court to the Miami community. Now, he partnered with Adebayo and their respective foundations to run a contest for a fresh court design. Then on Thursday, the two Heat icons officially unveiled the newly designed court. “This is a passing of the torch,” said one attendee during the ceremony.

Fans cannot help themselves but think of the early chapters of another exciting story — of two of basketball’s brightest stars becoming bound through what is greater than the sport itself. But like this event, another important day for Wade is just knocking at the door.

Rick Ross and Nino Breeze will give a musical performance during the unveiling. Interestingly, the statue of Dwyane Wade was sculpted by Omri Amrany and Oscar León of Rotblatt Amrany firm, the same firm that created statues of other NBA legends such as Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. On October 28th, the NBA champion will address the audience during halftime of the game.
Previously, a halftime ceremony in 2020 saw the team retire Wade’s jersey number 3. Wade’s statue will stand as a symbol of his greatness and his commitment to the Miami Heat. We can now say that just before his big night, the contribution of the court was just like a cherry on top of a cake.
