With a career spanning more than 50 endorsements, Shaquille O’Neal is every brand’s dream. While the majority of his endorsements have been successful, there are also a few unconventional ones in the mix. Yet, even those just add to the charm of the 4x NBA champion. Recently, his longtime frenemy Charles Barkley spoke about one of those unusual endorsements with fans. What do you think it is?

Well, it involves a $5 billion electronics brand and a $6.7 billion office supply store. During the recent episode of ‘The Steam Room’ Podcast, Sir Charles was asked about the most peculiar endorsement ever taken on by O’Neal. Barkley proceeded to go nuclear describing his recent trip to Staples.

It seems Sir Charles’ sentiments don’t align with the fans. In response to the question from the listeners, Barkley began to talk about the 2019 endorsement deal between Shaq and Epson. However, it wasn’t the usefulness of the product that seemed to bother Sir Charles.

The 1993 NBA MVP shared his preference for maintaining large calendars, both at home and in his office, to organize his schedule. While he emphasized his need to have a visible calendar, he recounted a peculiar experience at Staples when he went to purchase one for himself.

To his surprise, the store was awash with Shaquille O’Neal’s pictures, plastered on every corner. I went to Staples this morning…But they got a million pictures of his fat a** in all over the store. Oh my God, they had to have at least 10 pictures of his fat a** all over the store.” Ernie Johnson quipped, “There’s no escaping Shaq.” The Phoenix Suns legend added, “I  complained! I said, ‘Why y’all got this fat a** dude all over the place in here?’

While he called out the store for forcing him to see his colleague’s face on his day off, Barkley and Ernie Johnson also acknowledged how big a brand Shaq has built around him. His connection to Epson has only furthered his reach.

How Epson and Shaq are giving back

A year before COVID struck the world, the Los Angeles Lakers legend teamed up with Seiko Epson Corporation. As a brand ambassador for the Japanese electronics company, O’Neal appeared in 18 commercials. A few of them were for the brand’s printers. Charles Barkley isn’t the only one to have run into Shaq at his local Staples either! His face is the brand’s go-to endorsement – and fans love it!

While he was also featured in adverts for Eco Tank, FastFoto, and EpiqVision, the highlight of this partnership is the program “Epson and Shaq Give Back.” In collaboration with Communities In Schools (CIS), the program aims to supply schools across the nation with printers, projectors, scanners, and various technological tools. Even if his endorsement does come out a bit bizarre at first, it always leads to be the Big Diesel‘s big-hearted nature.
