“What I want is for my mother to be proud of me,”  O’Neal said about his success in the business world. The 4x NBA champion has worked hard to build his business empire through strategic deals with Google, Reebok, Pepsi, and more. He has also been a longtime member of the board of directors for Papa Johns. However, Shaquille O’Neal just announced that he will not opt for re-election to its board of directors in 2024.

While the Los Angeles Lakers legend will continue to be a part of the brand as an ambassador and through his partnership deal, Shaq plans to end his tenure in the board. In the latest update shared by the Pizza Chain, it was noted that the reason behind the $400 million rich sports star leaving the brand is because of his other business commitments.

“While my other business commitments make it challenging to extend my board service for another term, I am looking forward to continuing my partnership with Papa Johns, a brand I’ve loved since my days playing basketball at LSU,” O’Neal explained.

It was back in 2019 when Shaq stepped in to support the brand when it was struggling due to some controversial issues. Since then, the brand has continued to turn over a new leaf. Needless to mention, both parties have enjoyed quite a great success with their partnership. The partnership between the two is well understood by the popularity of the Shaq-a-roni.

Shaquille O’Neal and Papa John’s generous gesture behind Shaq-a-roni

Just months ago, the 2000 NBA MVP and the pizza giant decided to bring back the big Shaq-a-roni. “Everyone’s favorite XL pepperoni pizza is BACK! Papa Rewards members can order the Shaq-a-Roni today at papajohns.com,” the mutually shared Instagram post caption read.

There’s a good cause behind this business deal as well! For every big Shaq-A-Roni pizza, $1 was given to The Papa John’s foundation. During their previous endeavor, the brand managed to amass $6 million for charity causes. Several relief programs and the Boys and Girls Club are also some of the benefactors from the proceeds.
