Another Michael Jordan memorabilia fetched a jaw-dropping amount at an auction. Titled ‘The Dynasty Collection’, a precious assortment of Jordan’s game-clinching sneakers achieved an astounding $8,032,800 as per ESPN. Comprising six iconic shoes representing each of Jordan’s championships, the collection includes the Air Jordan VI (1991), Air Jordan VII (1992), Air Jordan VIII (1993), Air Jordan XI (1996), Air Jordan XII (1997), and Air Jordan XIV (1998). Some of these shoes are a true rarity that bears an autograph by the 6x NBA champion.

There is an intriguing story behind this collection. Back in 1991, Bulls PR executive Tim Hallam made a unique request to Jordan. If the Bulls won the championship, he asked to keep one of MJ’s game-clinching shoes. Surprisingly, His Airness agreed, and five more shoes made their way into his collection. Recently, this collection was acquired by a private collector and put up for auction at Sotheby’s.

Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles, Brahm Wachter, said, “Today’s record-breaking price is a testament to the GOAT.” He further pointed out that this collection was one of the most significant compilations of sports memorabilia in history. He also made a big assertion, saying, “The sale of these six championship-clinching sneakers will likely never be replicated.” Only time will tell whether that proves to be true.

However, this is not the most expensive game memorabilia of Jordan. The astounding prices fetched by his iconic items of Jordan at auctions have left enthusiasts and investors alike in awe.

Michael Jordan is the King of sports memorabilia auctions

Back in 2021, Sotheby’s auctioned MJ’s Air Ships, created by Nike, for an eye-watering $1.472 million. Adding to the frenzy, Sotheby’s set a record by selling Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals Air Jordan 13 sneakers. The shoes fetched an impressive $2.2 million at the auction, making them the most expensive shoes ever sold in an auction.

The significance of this particular pair, worn during an important moment in Jordan’s career, highly contributed to its staggering value. However, Jordan’s game memorabilia sales reached unprecedented heights with the auction of his jersey from Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals. The jersey broke all records to achieve $10.1 million, making it the most expensive game-worn sports memorabilia ever sold.

While the Chicago Bulls legend’s on-court achievements undoubtedly played a role in elevating the value of his memorabilia, ‘The Last Dance’ documentary played a key part in reviving nostalgia around his career. The documentary provided a behind-the-scenes look at Jordan’s journey, reigniting interest and driving up the prices of associated merchandise and collectibles.
