Charles Barkley is baffled by the issues with Delta Air Lines. About 8.5 million computers were affected by the global IT outages that took place on July 19, due to an update by CrowdStrike. Finally, the company breathed a sigh of relief as CrowdStrike found a solution to fix the global outage. However, this did not help other companies, such as Delta Air Lines.

The impact is still affecting the airlines massively. There have been record cancellations of flights and delays in the airlines. Most of you might be aware of the fact that NBA legend Barkley prefers commercial flights and his most preferable choice is Delta Air Lines. Unfortunately, the NBA star also got caught in it. Luckily, he didn’t have to face much trouble except for his luggage. Let’s have a detailed look at the travel disruptions caused.

What baffled Chuck is the same question almost everyone is asking. Despite the outage taking place days ago, why is the airline still facing such serious issues? “I didn’t get stuck at the airport, so I just flew in today. Didn’t have any issues…I’m kind of surprised it’s still going on this many days later, to be honest with you,” Barkley said in his interview with a news channel, 11Alive.

Naturally, banks, IT firms, ATMs, healthcare services, and airlines were the worst hit. Flight delays and cancellations, along with long queues, were seen at airports. Delta Air Lines isn’t the only one. American Airlines and United Airlines were equally impacted. However, the problem is while other airlines have begun their normal routine, Delta Air Lines is still struggling. The issue that Barkley pointed out earlier.

More than 10 thousand people were left stranded at airports while there was also a lack of hotel rooms causing people to spend hours at the airport. Delta CEO Ed Bastian made an official apology on July 21, explaining that the issue was caused due to crew tracking software. “One of our crew tracking-related tools was affected and unable to effectively process the unprecedented number of changes triggered by the system shutdown. Our teams have been working around the clock to recover and restore full functionality,” Bastian said.

It has already been three days since the issue. But the airlines had 1000 flight cancellations in just one day. Over the weekend, the company canceled 3,000 flights. Additionally, customers trying to get in touch with customer service have also reported facing issues.

Why was there a global outage?

The global outage happened basically during a routine software update by renowned Texas-based cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. The company revealed that an error in the update clashed with Windows that turned out to be quite disastrous. However, it was fixed. After this, the Crowdstrike CEO, George Kurtz explained some customers might need to get their computers fixed manually rather than the rest who had a fix automatically.

“The system was sent an update, and that update had a software bug in it and caused an issue with the Microsoft operating system. Our systems are always looking for the latest attacks from these adversaries that are out there,” Kurtz explained.

Let’s not forget that numerous administrative centers and activities are dependent on Microsoft. Moving on, during these tough times for Delta Air Lines, Barkley has voiced his appreciation for the airline.

Charles Barkley praised the Delta Airlines

He was flying from Arizona, his home, to Atlanta for his analyst job at TNT. After waiting some time to retrieve his possessions, such as golf clubs, Barkley gave a brief interview to 11Alive. A regular Delta Airlines customer for over 24 years, Barkley flies twice a week and has only praised the staff with whom he is friendly. “I fly Delta 95% of the time, so that really sucks because they do a fabulous job most of the time, all of the time. I’ve never had an issue,” Barkley said.

But he is also sad about those who are suffering due to this issue. “It’s just been a nightmare and I feel sad for the people,” he added.

Although he expressed confusion about Delta Air Lines’ current issues, the Philadelphia 76ers legend is also concerned about the staff who are bearing the brunt of the situation. All we can hope for now is that Delta Airlines quickly recovers from these tech issues.
