The Boston Celtics emerged victorious against all odds in 2008. They beat the Los Angeles Lakers in a rather emphatic fashion in six games. Paul Pierce picked up the Finals MVP award for his phenomenal display, but he had a great supporting cast behind him. One of the members of the championship-winning squad recently opened up about how every piece of the puzzle fell into its place and the Celtics landed the evergreen and ever-intense Kevin Garnett.
Kevin Garnett won the 2003 MVP for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He’s hands down one of the best players of the first decade of this century. Garnett was known to be a major asset on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. It’s interesting to note what the Celtics had to do to land the Hall of Famer before they went on to win the championship title.

Perkins said, “Doc called me, ‘Aye we trading Al Jefferson. We’re getting KG.'” Perkins had responded,?”Who the fu** we trading Al Jefferson for? We can make this happen. Just give us time.”
Perkins revealed that Doc Rivers, the legendary coach, informed him that he’ll be showing the door to Al Jefferson and get Kevin Garnett. Initially Perkins was against the idea as he thought the team could have attained NBA gold without Garnett. But later he realized that his coach had been correct all along. Garnett put up an impressive average of 18.2 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists over six games against the Lakers in the 2008 NBA Finals.

Kendrick Perkins attributes the Celtics’ success to Garnett
When Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce joined hands in Boston to win the title, Perkins said that someone had to take a backseat.
He said, “They were at the end of their careers almost and they accomplished everything they needed to accomplish individually; the only thing that was left for all of them was for those guys to win the championship. And so, with that being said, it wasn?t hard for them to sacrifice and the person who set the tone was arguably the best person on the squad and that was KG.”?
