Shaq's nephew in the spotlight—Is he the next big thing in basketball?

A 14-year-old from the Lutheran High School team is catching the attention of Shaquille O’Neal’s fans. After Hoop Editz shared an IG post featuring a young basketball prodigy, it was the caption that caught everyone’s sight. “How is this the first time I’m hearing about Shaq’s Nephew?” Since the caption had some IG users scratching their heads, let’s dive into what we have on the newly discovered star.

The video featured the budding high school basketball star Jarrett Harris showcasing some jaw-dropping dunks, who is just a freshman as of now and stands at 6’4″. Presently, he plays for the Lutheran High School of Indianapolis under the guidance of head coach Remus Woods. In addition, he hones his skills with his travel/club coach, David Deram, as per the info on NCSA College Recruiting.

His talent on the court is undeniable, and now, thanks to a viral moment, he’s stepping into the spotlight.

Interestingly, Shaquille O’Neal himself re-shared the post in his IG story without adding any commentary, sparking even more intrigue. However, Shaq had left a comment on one of Harris’ posts earlier this year, hinting at their close relationship. But don’t take our word for it—Jarrett himself opened up about their bond. “… A huge influence in my life and I truly look up to him,” the 14-year-old wrote in a heartfelt caption.

He further praised Shaq as an incredible basketball talent but stated that it’s the ex-LA Lakers star’s kind heart and positive attitude that sets him apart. “Unc told me he will always be there for me, offering words of wisdom and encouragement whenever I need it,” Harris added. He further expressed his gratitude to have Shaq always by his side as the guiding force. “I strive to be as successful and compassionate as he is.” And it is just the beginning.

Shaquille O’Neal replying to the 14-year-old’s aforementioned heartfelt post with “your gonna b way better i got u” is a hope for Harris’ promising future. So, what makes the 14-year-old freshman such an exciting player to watch? For starters, he possesses the flexibility of playing as both — a small forward and a power forward.

Now, let’s talk about his impressive build at a young age itself. Standing at 6’4″, Harris boasts a wingspan of 6 feet 7 inches, which means he has a remarkable reach — a game-changer on both offense and defense. But even more impressive is his vertical jump at a staggering 40 inches, as per NCSA College Recruiting.

Imagine a player who can seamlessly switch from driving to the hoop to battling for rebounds in the paint. With the right guidance, that could easily be Harris. Just picture him soaring above the rim for a dunk—it’s a sight that leaves fans and opponents alike in awe. Yes, that’s how his recent highlights from the sessions and games have been. With a recent push from Shaquille O’Neal himself, now it’s to be seen how high the 6’4″ player rises.
