In 2024, the high school basketball players have 11 second-generation children. They are ranked top 50 prospects in their class as per MaxPreps. But not everybody has chosen to follow in their father’s footsteps. Kevin Garnett’s eldest has chosen a different path with volleyball and secured an offer from Michigan. Interestingly, it’s the same possible destination that KG could have chosen if he had not skipped college.

The Celtics legend married in 2004 but is currently separated from his ex-wife, Brandi Padilla. They have been so since 2018, but continue to co-parent their daughter, playing an important role each. It was evident as she highlighted their support after she took the next big step.

Earlier this year, Michelle Bamford of Prepdig, curated a list of top defensive prospects in the country. It was during the AAU Girls’ Junior National Volleyball 16’s Championship in Orlando, Florida, when, over a hundred courts were alive with action, as scouts and coaches observed, looking for the next promising prospects. And Kapri Garnett was one of the players in that top 6 list.

Last year, the 16-year-old shared the recruiting message from Prepdig on her Instagram. It read, “A rising star in the world of high school volleyball. Standing tall at 6 feet 3 inches, Kapri is a sophomore sensation as a right-side hitter. She effortlessly transitions off the net and can deliver powerful hits over any block. Her roll shots and tips showcase precision, and she shines with overpass and cross-court skills. With her towering height, she builds an impenetrable wall at the net” — just like her father, Kevin Garnett, who was known for his rugged defensive skills.

The 6’2″ #18 currently plays for Viewpoint as a Junior and is a part of the Sunshine volleyball club. During the 2022-23 season, she racked up 16 kills and boasted a 31.4 kill percentage in just 24 sets played. She was fifth in terms of total kills and ball handling in the squad. A year more to go but the Michigan Wolverines might just have landed some great potential.

Kevin Garnett is elated for Kapri and her selection

Yessss sirrrr… Dope moment… Thx you Kapri…” Kevin Garnett wrote after his daughter enrolled at the University of Michigan. They even visited the Michigan Stadium together. “I am beyond blessed and excited to say that I have verbally committed to the University of Michigan to pursue my athletic and academic career!!” the 16-year-old had announced. She thanked her club coaches and school coaches for laying the right foundation to capitalize on her recent achievement.
